Lol, Memtest time. Windows locked up after boot and a few times a couple days ago.

So far, one stick of 512 tested bad. Hopefully that's the only one.

Update: Swapped out entire set and replaced with 4x512MB PC133. Running stable again.

OMG what an EPIC board cpu mem combination!! 😁

I have had a Unisys / Dell PowerEdge 6450 server with:

4x Xeon 700 MHz 2mb cache
4x 36gb 10k scsi disk
2048mb reg ecc sdram (4x512mb)
Dell Perc3/DC 128mb with batterybackup
3x hotswap psu
video, u160 scsi and 100mbit network onboard
Floppy CD-Rom
1 PCI 32-bit/33MHz
4 PCI 64-bit/33MHz
2 PCI 64-bit/66MHz

A Beast of a 4way Slot2 server 😁

Yeah, the slot-2 platforms are probably my favorite retro hardware. Too bad the lifespan was so short, it's really hard to find intact slot-2 based workstations.

Got a Kingwin KT424-BK-WM for the Xeon rig. Decided the Xeons need to be shown off a bit more and what better way to do that than with an inverted-ATX case?

The conversion didn't take much work, pretty much just needed to cut the backplate for the new tray position and then move the support rails over to the other side and pop rivet into place. I may add a couple 80mm fans side-by-side for a blowhole up top later, not sure yet.

Plopped my Freeway FW6400 and Voodoo5 5500 in there to see what it would look like with a board in there. I may actually use the board in this case at some point, but probably not until I find a TJ06 or Coolermaster ATC-710 for the XG-DLS.

What I call "The Brick" installed on the mobo tray. Changed some stuff due to clearance issues in the case. Also swapped in a reference FX5950 Ultra due to close proximity of the Audigy 2 to the intake of the previous A380 Ultra.

The Obsidian's in storage until I get my Socket 940 machine up. I'm curious to see how it'll perform with 2.4Ghz Opterons pushing it.

Still working on getting the rig set up, waiting on an extension for the 20-pin, the existing cable length on my Enermax PSU is about 5 inches too short and lacks the 6-pin Aux, which the extension has. It'll have to be modified since the board only takes 3.3v from that connector though. Also waiting on a black optical drive and I'll have some new pics once done.

good lord, dual slot 2 xeons in an lian-li. A sexier computer system there is not.

I feel REALLY bad putting my xg-dls into a lian-li case. because I installed smoothwall on it (software router), and then I put it in my basement. Where I cant see it. 🙁

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

It's actually a Kingwin case, but it's identical to the old Lian Li cases of the same vintage. Had to grab this when I realized how easy it would be to flip the tray and how awesome the Xeons would look inside it. Even if it's a bit more cramped than the previous case.

Heh, maybe you could swap the XG-DLS out for another board and case combo?

Out of all the old platforms I've seen, the XG-DLS and the Slot-2 Xeons are definitely my favorite. The Iwill DCA200 comes close, but the board is so rare I'll probably never get my hands on one.

believe it or not, that's the floppy drive cable. Asus had a brain fart and for some ungodly reason, put the floppy drive connector right next to the agp slot.

I hope the guy that decided to put that there was fired for coming into work drunk. 🙁

That's a floppy cable I modded for better flexibility. I did the same for my IDE cables. The floppy controller happens to be in a really bad position near the center of the board. I think I'll probably just remove the floppy drive and omit the extra cable since I never seem to actually use the thing.

The XG-DLS is definitely the coolest looking Slot-2 setup ever. Too bad there wasn't a similar board based on the i840. Would have been cool to have a similar setup running 133Mhz FSB "Xeons" or 100Mhz large-cache Xeons with RDRAM.

I wonder if I could push these processors to 900Mhz... the last time I tried playing with SoftFSB, I was able to get to 115Mhz FSB, but I had issues with 5950 Ultra possibly being flaky, I'm guessing it can't handle the out-of-spec AGP frequency too well.

Anyone know a decent card that could handle an overclocked AGP bus?

I just noticed in the first post the exhaust fans are set as intakes and the make shit fan is facing the opposite direction meaning to sets of fans pushing air again each other. I do not trust memtest what os ever any more, I have copy that fails no matter what computer you test with and i tested 7 different computers.

Ah yeah, I noticed that a while ago. It's setup properly now, but I'm not using that case for this particular build now though.
