In my abit bx2 board I had it at 135mhz with a 450mhz katmai @ 607mhz. And all I did at the time is just white heatsink paste the heatsink to the nb.

Did you ever work out the issue with the Obsidian2?

Yes you were right!

The obsidian has no output. The seller sent me another one and that worked fine. I thought it might be the cable but alas it was not.

I am thinking of putting it in my above mentioned abit bx6r2 and remove the voodoo 2 sli setup I have, and gain a pci slot. Now what to put into that free pci slot....

Seems I'm having some issues with getting the A350 running in Windows 98SE. It doesn't matter what driver I install, Windows 98 will simply restart before even getting to the login screen. I've tried the LeadTek A350 driver pack I found on the site, which is based on Forceware 56.64, the Nvidia Forceware 56.64 release and Forceware 53.04. I also tried the last version of Forceware I could find for Windows 98SE/ME, which also gave me similar issues. I had the same issues with the GeForce4 Ti4600 using Forceware 45.23.

Both cards worked without any issues in Windows 2000 Pro in both benchmarks and in games, so I'm guessing there's something I'm missing that's preventing the drivers from working properly. Maybe an AGP driver or something for the XG-DLS?

I would download the bx or equivalent for your board chipset drivers, directx then install video drivers but even if you havent installed in that order it should not crash.
THe 9x microsoft operating systems would get their knickers in a knot sometimes for the smallest issues.

Weird.

Weird.

Installed the last chipset driver pack from Intel that supported the 440GX, installed the last version of DirectX for Windows 98 and then tried the Forceware install. Didn't seem to solve the issue. I'm pretty sure there's a driver of some kind I might be missing or that needs to be updated, I'm just not exactly sure what it is and where to find it 🤣.

Edit: Managed to get Forceware 61.76 to install. Hit dxdiag and it's saying I have no DirectDraw, Direct3d or AGP Texture acceleration. If I try to change screen res from the 800x600 it has defaulted to, I get a black screen crash and have to restart.

I installed the unofficial 98SE SP3, which seems to have allowed me to install the drivers and boot into windows without issue, but then I got a black screen crash when I tried to see if dxdiag was displaying the proper directx info.

Update:

Disabled PNP OS in bios. Going to do a fresh reinstall of 98SE to see if that solves any of the issues I've been having. Not sure if that will actually help or not, but I seem to remember hearing that Windows 98 didn't really seem to handle managing IRQs well and that it was better to let the bios handle that.

in the bios boot up screen is any device using the same irq as your video card. I had an issue with a nic and vid card however that resulted in the pc not booting up.
If after the windows install the same thing happens remove every peripheral and leave only the vid card in and see if it performs any better.

imho windows 98 is just a waste of time on this board. The video card is too new, doesn't support more than 512mb ram (up for debate) and the 2nd cpu.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Yeah, it's beginning to look that way. I wanted to dual boot, but I think I'll just stick with 2000 Pro and keep Windows 98SE for the A-Trend board.

Edit: Got a question... there's a 6-pin auxiliary power connector on the XG-DLS board. Is this actually needed? Because I've been running under heavy load in games and benchmarks in 2000 Pro and the rig is rock solid, the only issues I've had are the trouble with installing Forceware drivers in 98SE.

I would recommend using the aux power connector if you are running fast pentium 3's. It certainly cant hurt. That being said it is a rather special 3.3v connector. Goggle doesn't seem to have a picture of it on an atx power supply, but it looks like this:

The far right connector with the 3 orange and 3 black. thats how its wired. If you have a 5/3.3v aux connector like this: http://o.quizlet.com/i/f9dx3LLpmllXMAqV5PU7dg_m.jpg

then you can just remove the 5v line and switch the blacks and oranges. thats how I did mine.

I've got a 520W TTGI on the way. Just the two 3.3v leads is sufficient for any extra power draw?

Swapped the WinFast A350 with an A380. Not much of a performance gain as the platform and processors are a major bottleneck, but it does run a lot cooler than the A350. Also put some heatspreaders on the memory, not that it ran hot... it just looks good.

Played around with a Windows 7 installation, was actually pretty snappy, but it was pretty much useless for anything else, so it's gone and the machine is now XP Pro SP3 only. I think it may actually perform better than the 2000 Pro installation I was using previously.
