Well,

Mine was as follows:

386SX-16 with a Hadeka motherboard
1MB RAM (as 8x44256 RAM chips)
Intel 387SX-16 Mathco
512KB OAK 067 VGA Card
OEM multi I/O controller
40 MB Seagate ST157A HDD
Sony 1.44MB 3.5" FDD
Teac 1.2MB 5.25" FDD
14" Mono VGA Monitor

Purchased from a crappy no-name cheap system builder and it is the only PC that I didn't built myself. It served me thru my university years (till the end of 1994) with those upgrades:

4MB additional RAM
240 MB Maxtor 7243AT additional HDD
Trident 9000 1MB VGA card
Soundblaster Pro 2.0 sound card

Had a :

80286 running at 20MHz. About 12MHz with the Turbo button set to off.
2MB RAM - have a faint recollection of having those hardware expanded memory board or chips.
VGA card with 512k ram.
Sound Blaster 1.5 - the card and box which I still have today.
40MB Hard drive.
Had a dual 5.25"-3.5" combo floppy drive.
A 14" 0.29 dpi VGA monitor.

Unfortunately I was not much into the internal components at that time and don't remember the exact parts.

Then most probably, you are not an old enough fart, so you are clearly off-topic... 😁

Exactly!...

I'm now able to mention some exact specifics of some parts of that PC since I still have some of its main parts on hand.

This 1992 machine was my first PC ever, and when I went to the cheap and crappy OEM PC builder, what I asked for was "a computer", nothing else... 😏

Only specs I gave him was "VGA graphics" (I had seen Wing commander II and knew that it was not possible to play it in hurcules mono systems which was the entry level norm at that time where I live), a mathco, (numerical analysis with FORTAN was my main serious purpose for having a PC) and an additional 5.25" FDD for data exchange issues with the PC workstation in the aeronautics department.

In less then two years time, I started working as a part time service technician for another crappy OEM builder, though... : 😈

Hehe 😜

No, computers were very expensive at the time and we didn't have enough money, but I've made up for lost time since then 😁
A friend of mine owned a 286 in those days though, but neither of us remember the exact specs of it anymore except that it was a low-end machine.

Hewitt-Rand 286 at 12 MHz. It had an Oak Technology 512 KB VGA graphics card. Bought used in the late 80's; dumped it during a move in the late 90's. It was used mainly for Word Star, Word Perfect, and to connect to the library's database via dial-up modem.

Tandy 2500 SX/33
DOS 5.0
Windows 3.1
Adlib Sound Blaster
And a mouse! (this was a Christmas present one year)

This was the second system given to me by my father when he upgraded to a newer one. I didn't replace it until 2000. Mostly used for playing games. I tried to do some sound editing which benefited one class presentation. Never tinkered with it much. It's still siting around waiting for me to try a CF>IDE adapter with it. If only I weren't so lazy.

My parents bought me my first PC in December 1991.
286/16 (I think Siemens) on unknown motherboard
1mb RAM (I think it was in chips not simms, and way more than 8, probably 36).
Chips & Technologies 256kb vga card
Multi I/O card (I think 8bit) with no HDD/FDD controller
Seperate HDD/FDD controller (really old. It had a HDD connector labeled "Winchester")
5.25" 1.2MB Mitsubishi Floppy Disk Drive ( the only part I still have and working)
14" Monochrome VGA monitor

And, yes I had no Hard Disk on that. I used to boot DOS 4.01 which came with the system, and was able to run only stuff that would fit on a floppy disk. 2 years later I upgraded it to a 386/40, and I regret a lot not asking to get the old hardware from the store.

Tell me about it!.. The machine that I mentioned above was a shitty OEM build with very entry level specs, and was exactly 1.250 USD + VAT (which was my lovely grandmother's savings, reserved for her planned religious vist to Mecca. She was so considerate about her grandchildrens' needs, RIP)

I was pretty spoiled. I had a DTK 486 system.

-DTK PKM-0031Y motherboard with Symphony chipset (ISA only)
-Intel 486DX-33
-4MB 30 pin SIMM
-Maxtor 7213AT ~200MB HDD
-DTK PTI-217 Multi I/O
-ATi Graphics Ultra 1MB (+512kb VGA core)
-Sound Blaster 2.0
-Panasonic 1.44mb FDD
-Maxiswitch 101 keyboard
-Enlight chassis w/200W PS
-Sony CPD-1393 14" Trinitron monitor

Later it was upgraded with:

-Another 4MB ram (8MB in total)
-Creative CT2230 SB16
-Sony CDU-31A proprietary CD-ROM
-Rockwell 28.8 data modem (with chronic disconnection problem)
-Canon BJC-4100 bubblejet printer (pile of shit)

I tried both OS/2 2.1 and Windows 95 on this system, but 8MB just wasn't enough. I ran Windows 3.1 on this system until mid 97 when I finally got a new PC. Sometime in 1996 I got a virus which put a password on my non-removable (and non resettable) DALLAS battery. I tried to have it replaced, but ended up going with an Elite Groups UMC based VLB motherboard instead.

8 of 41256 chips was only 256KB, so you need to have a complete 32 of them for the huge 1MB... 😈

And for the controller, most probably (like many other 286 systems of that era) you had an MFM HDD controller with floppy port.

386 DX 20Mhz,
ISA ATI VGA Wonder 512kb (still works!)
4 MB RAM
SVGA CRT CTX 14" (still works!)
Some HDD (I really cant remember the size), 5"1/4 + 3.5" floppy

...later on the Opti MaD 16 pro was added (I hated that SB, nothing worked on it)
