Hi all, im new to this area of building as iv mostly started with 2ghz + builds but would like to build what is considered a retro rig for old games i played in my childhood. id just like some sugestions/ideas with the parts i have lying around, i feel a shame to waste. iv put together a list of parts i have, i know are tested and working 😁 . sorry if my layout sucks, not used to forum writing here.
Motherboards:
QDI Legend V (440LX Chipset, agp, 3xdimm's, 4x pci, 3x isa)
Acer V72MA (Ali Aladdin V Chipset, integrated agp, 3x pci, 1x isa
gigabyte GA-6wmm7 (skt 370, intel 810 or 815 chipset)
gigabyte GA-7VAXP (SKT A)
Asrock K7S41GX (Skt A)
Aopen AK77-600GN
VGA Cards:
Diamond stealth 3d 2000 pci
Diamond Monster 3d 2 (im sure, Just says M3D-II, Voodoo2 12mb)
A-Trend Helious 3d 2 (voodoo2, 12mb)
Creative 3d Blaster TNT 16mb PCi
Nvidia TNT 2 Pro 16mb agp
ATI Rage 128 AIW 16mb agp
Pine Geforce 2 mx200 32mb agp
Hercules 3d prophet II Geforce 2 mx400 32mb agp
2x unbranded Geforce 4 mx440SE (64mb & 128mb)
CPU'S:
Pentium 2 350mhz/100/512kb (will only run at 233mhz in LX Board or 290 o/c).
Pentium 3's, 667, 700, 800EB, 866, 933 All SKT 370. Have 550 & 667 slot 1 but no boards 🙁 Same for Athlon Classic 650mhz slot A.
Athlon xp's , 2000+ TB, 2100+ Palmino, 2400+ TB, and 2x 2800+ Barton's.

Hope someone can come up with possible combination?
as for ram i have a box of over 20+ sticks off sdram in various sizes and brands 64mb,128mb,256mb , same for speeds 66/100/133 mhz. at least 2 of each size speed. As for ddr i have 3x 256mb 333mhz and 2x 512mb 400mhz.
Hard drives, i have afew quantum fireballs 6gb-20gb lying around, 3x 80gb ide's spare to.

As for opertating systems i have (all original).
DOS 6.2 on floppys (sealed still)
win 3.1 on floppys
win 95 on floppys and cd both sealed also an unsealed cd.
win98SE cd
Win ME
any suggestions on setup will be taken into serious consideration, i have a case to fit any board, Beige atx (looks matx due to side ways mounted psu) and fancy blue front bezel.

Hope u guys here can come up with something for me, im lost where to start.

what games are you planning to run on this build? it will help people giving you suggestions 😉

Forgot to mention i only have a few creative SB 128 pci cards unfortunatly, few 3com 10/100 nic's and netgear 10/100 nic's all pci. also forgot skt7 cpu's, k6-2 300AFR, 400AFQ and 500AFX, the acer board is in original ibm aptiva case to, nice beige, good condition. Not got any ISA cards. got an adaptec scsi controller pci card, with an external cd-rw scsi drive.

thanks for fast reply, as for games i still have, wolf 3d, doom ultimate (dos version), win95 versions of doom trilogy. quake 1 + 2, motorhead, first 3 tomb raider games. wipeout XL, rayman 2, shogo, klingon honor guard, panzer dragoon, destruction derby 2, revolt, first 2 resident evil games, possibly half life and alien vs predator 1. thats off top of my head, but there will be many more oldies that will come back to me.

A pentium3 with 3dfx hardware and windows 98 is nice to play 3D games like quake2 later tombraider need for speed etc. Most later games from 2002 and up can be run on a new machine with windows7. So in my opinion you don't really need a retro machine from that era. Maybe the slowest system for a MS-DOS machine.
