Nvidia chipsets are not that bad when it comes to overclocking but they are much harder to work with than Intel plus they are power hogs. Had a XFX 780i that I don't the vdroop mod and needless to say it ran the utility bill on its own. 780i can do 440-500mhz but that takes modded cooling and the 680i if the board is good can reach similar clocks but still not easy. Never got to play with 790i but I do know that it sucks even more power and takes a much larger cooler to cope.

For performance 775 just go with Intel and DDR3.

On a far away planet reading your posts in the year 10,191.

Is that retro? I only recently upgraded my main PC to this level.

ROFL - heck, that retro build is an upgrade from my current main desktop.

I am using just a triple core AMD chip. Of course, I don't use it for much really beyond browsing and email. In actuality, I had been out of any real interest in PC's at all- doing nothing but fixing crap for freinds and relatives- UNTIL I saw a video on YouTube about building a Time Machine. Now I have built two such machines and am in planning stage for a third.

More fun than I have had with computers in years!

So I say to the OP, "whatever trips your trigger!" 😊

Nice looking systems.

I didn't know either that LGA775 was considered retro... My main PC has been a Core2Q6600 since 2007, only upgraded to Core2Q9550 a few months ago. It's still going strong and I don't really feel the need to change for a more recent rig!

Retro isn't synonymous with old. A dress that went out of fashion 10 years ago isn't necessarily retro. A musician that was popular 10-15 years ago isn't retro. Retro is a state of being that happens when something old becomes hip and cool. A Core 2 Quad might be out dated and "old" by many peoples standards. But it isn't retro.

That being said, it's a very nice system.

WinXP : PIII 1.4GHz, 512MB RAM, 73GB SCSI HDD, Matrox Parhelia, SB Audigy 2.
Win98se : K6-3+ 500MHz, 256MB RAM, 80GB HDD, Matrox Millennium G400 MAX, Voodoo 2, SW1000XG.
DOS6.22 : Intel DX4, 64MB RAM, 1.6GB HDD, Diamond Stealth64 DRAM, GUS 1MB, SB16.

Heck a Q6600 retro? No way, My daily driver is an E6800 about the same clock for clock. My HTPC in my living room is a Dell Dimm 9200 with a Q6600 4gb 120gb with an 8500gt.

That's not retro. 😉 If anything, it's actually somewhat similar to my main box, albeit a bit better.
