Hey all! You mightve seen me mention that I traded my laptop for a bunch of old hardware. Well I got this nice p2 mmx. It has 128 mb ram. In the bios it says the p2 is 291 mhz. I installed daggerfall and some other dos games. It has an ATI 3d tv tuner/ vga card that's 2x agp. Also got the Samsung Syncmaster monitor with it and its perfect. Its sound blaster 16 vibra pci sounds good. I'm quite pleased with it! Only thing is I slapped a western digital caviar 3 gb in it. It would not recognize my seagate barracuda Ata 40gb and would hang when it auto detects it. But anyway I've got a pic: [img=http://s27.postimg.org/5k4ozmftr/CAM00051.jpg]

Linux: AMD Athlon 64 4000+, 1.5GB DDR, Nvidia Quadro FX1700 running Debian Jessie 8.4.0

I'd bet the later Build engine games would run perfectly on something like that.

Also, that wallpaper. 🤣

That one vintage computer enthusiast brony.

Inside the motherboard has 3 isa, 4 PCI, and 1 agp. I think it's a slot 1 because It had an old celeron processor in it but I got a p2 mmx and plugged it in. Also, yeah, I picked the wallpaper because it looked cool 😀 might get a new one sometime.

The wallpaper setting is an eyesore, it's supposed to be tiled, not stretched. 😵 Also, nice mobo expansion capability. My first system was a K5 PR166 on a board with 3(2?) ISA and 4 PCI, but no APG. 🙁

Ok, I fixed the wallpaper to tiles. Also when I run daggerfall the sky and background are sometimes weird and glitchy.

Daggerfall IS wierd and glitchy...

If you do not run in to problems in other games I would just blame Daggerfall.
With that said some other video cards (Nvidia/3DFX) would probably be better for game compatibility.

New PC: i9 12900K @5GHz all cores @1.2v. MSI PRO Z690-A. 32GB DDR4 3600 CL14. 3070Ti.
Old PC: Dual Xeon X5690@4.6GHz, EVGA SR-2, 48GB DDR3R@2000MHz, Intel X25-M. GTX 980ti.

You should run Prime95 on that thing just to make sure it's stable. 291MHz is not a standard clockspeed for a P2, so it sounds like the previous owner overclocked it.

When I played Daggerfall I used a PCI Trio64v2+. there cheap and highly compatible. I had no graphics issues with that card. About half way through I switched to a Virge/GX which supposedly has the same 2d core but after the switch I noticed some very minor glitching in some of the floor textures. so if your going to be playing a lot og DOS stuff I recommend a S3 card of some type for compatibility.

and do yourself a favor. I think I mentioned it to you in another forum but seriously make sure Daggerfall is patched to the latest version (2.13 I think) and if in DOS swap the 16 bit memory manager for the 32 bit version and lower the chance of save file corruption. after doing all the patching and playing through the game it crashed on me maybe 10 or so times. not great but manageable and a walk in the park compared to the 50+ crashes I had in Arena. patches here http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Files

Yeah, I'm guessing that it was overclocked. I will reset it in the BIOS later. Also I'll look at those DF patches, some of those will be great help.
