Thanks ramiro77 😀

Slot 1 processors do have a certain appeal due to their size and install procedures; I believe AMD's Slot A processors are about the same (never had one myself though). Studying the universal retention mechanism (URM), CPU and motherboard up close was a lot of fun 😊

My second round of testing is done and it's time to show my results. As before, I'll do several posts to make them easier to read. let's start with MDK.

Direct3D, GeForce 2 GTS

T4ArHLB.png

Glide, Voodoo 2 SLI

l7fyve5.png

DirectDraw, GeForce 2 GTS

WOGbaLw.png

Since MDK only runs at 640x480 and is capped at 30 FPS, I chose to use the built-in Performance Test. Needless to say, everything looks great - even software mode; then again, the game was designed for Pentium 1 and Pentium Pro based computers. Anything above that will be more than good enough. Onto the next post.....

What is this feeling of Deja vu I'm getting? Oh well. Onto the next post.....

Finally, Unreal Gold. First the GF2 in 16-bit color mode (D3D):

640x480=62.94 FPS

laPtadc.png

800x600=61.40 FPS

KAoWVio.png

1024x768=58.23 FPS

ivJOudr.png

1152x864=56.23 FPS

wMW4qdvh.png

1280x1024=52.69 FPS

TrdE3Hrh.png

Looks like the GF2 has finally met its match; those results do look a little odd however. Hmmmm... 😐

Onto the next post.....

Next, GF2 in 32-bit true color mode (D3D):

640x480=56.38 FPS

9aVz3aq.png

800x600=53.76 FPS

fowLGpW.png

1024x768=50.38 FPS

1152x864=46.46 FPS

PU9HUmih.png

1280x1024=39.76 FPS

F3etxZ7h.png

While performance has dropped as expected, the results still look odd. How weird...

Last but not least, Voodoo 2 SLI in glorious Glide:

640x480=80.63 FPS

Opnnxmo.png

800x600=71.32 FPS

CFSLzuw.png

1024x768=55.39 FPS

lD51bUZ.png

Okay, something's not right. The GF2 has consistently smacked down the Voodoo 2 SLI elsewhere, but with Unreal Gold the tables suddenly turn. Either the Glide renderer is ultra efficient here, or the D3D renderer really sucks. I tend to believe it's the latter. Even image quality shows a marked difference - Voodoo 2 looks very clear and sharp, while GF2 is dull and fuzzy (there's color banding in 32-bit screenshots also). The clincher is the timedemo results themselves, the GF2 shows a gradual FPS drop (as if something is holding it back) while the Voodoo 2 has a marked FPS drop as expected. And even though I know that Unreal was a Glide game from the start, Epic should have at least tried to make D3D a little better than it is here. Too bad 😒

And that's it, testing time is over. For now I'll continue to enjoy this build and its improved capabilities, but this is not the end; once I can get my CUSL2-C board recapped I'll shuffle hardware around and give this Slot 1 PC a new purpose. What that will be it's still to be determined, I already have a few ideas floating around; for now all I can say is that the possibilities are quite interesting and intriguing. Time will tell 😁 😊

Hey I noticed an old post where you mentioned you had infinity machine and or some old software that allows you to write codes. I couldn't find any and can't PM now since I'm new.

Do you still have them? Are you willing to sell any?
