My Tualatin rig wasn't getting much love, so I decided to give it a bit of a card shuffle. The aim was to build a system to be silky smooth for D3D, OpenGL, Glide, and PowerVR games from 1997ish through 2003ish.

Out went the Hercules Gametheater XP, GeForceFX 5600, and one of the Voodoo 2 cards.

In went an Aureal Vortex 2, GeForce4 Ti 4200, and a PowerVR PCX2.

The dying HDD also got swapped out, and I made an attempt at cable management.

So here are the specs:

Gigabyte 6OXT motherboard
Pentium III-S 1.4GHz
512MB PC133 SDR SDRAM
Seagate Barracuda 80GB IDE HDD
Leadtek WinFast A280 VIVO (nVidia GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB)
Creative 3D Blaster Voodoo2 12MB
Matrox M3D (NEC PowerVR PCX2)
Turtle Beach Montego II (Aureal Vortex II)
Realtek RTL-8139D 10/100 NIC
Windows 98SE, Unofficial SP3

And some pics

Cool build 😀 I'm confident that If you buy an ATX plug extension and some zip-ties you will get around dealing with those cables much better, that case probably has holes made for cable management on the motherboard tray

Nice!

Not sure why I didn't spot this earlier 😊

Nice time machine in the new case and all of that. How does Unreal perform on the single V2? At 800 x 600 it should run fairly well.

Is that case a Thermaltake V3? I used one of those when I was rockin' a 3870x2, all of the screw holes are stripped out 🙁

Very nice build, btw. I would like to build a Windows 98SE rig here soon.

Now that is a pretty P3 =)
Does the TI4200 have better compatibility than your FX 5600 it replaced?

TBH I don't know. According to the VOGONS wiki, they only started axing old features in the GeForce 6 series.

It's more period accurate though, runs quite a bit cooler, and has a much quieter fan than the FX5600.

I'll have to dig out my copy of Unreal, but I do have UT'99 GOTY handy. I'll give that a go now and let you know!
