I am finally starting to get some hardware decisions finalized and at last have some good batteries for my camera. From here on out I will start documenting my builds in this thread. Enjoy!

Build #1: The Pheonix!
Soyo P4S Dragon Ultra, the motherboard I have been fighting off and on for the past 3 years. This has a universal AGP Pro slot and support for any cpu from the 1.4ghz Willamette up to a 2.8ghz/533fsb Northwood P4. This is the single motherboard I have owned the longest, father built it brand new in 2002 when the board first released. For now I am rebuilding it similar to how I received it from him, but with some VOGONS inspired twists.

Specs list: Northwood 2.4b, stock AVC HSF, 3x1gb kit of 1STCHOICEMEMORY DDR266, the trusty old Radeon 7200 32mb DDR All-In-Wonder AGP card, a pair of 12mb Voodoo2's for some juicy GLIDE action to supplement the Radeon, and instead of the SB Live! that was in it back in the day I swapped in a Diamond Monster MX300.

Enjoy the current progress pics and I hope to keep this updated and finished with some fun benchmarks and reports on my other builds 😊

I think I am going to go with 2K Pro, the extra ram does not hurt and the Voodoo2's have good W2K drivers. Have a 233mmx build also in the works to cover 9x and a Prescott 478 system to handle DX9 Windows XP games, so this should fit nicely in between those two.

I want to see this Phoenix rise from its ashes once again! 😊

I can't believe how troublesome that Soyo board has been. Good thing you stayed with it ODwilly, persistence does pay off sooner or later; and placing this build between the other two should cover all bases nicely.

Will keep an eye for the updates when they come. Should be fun to watch The Phoenix get up and fly as high as possible 😎

Ooohh, the pain......

Oh just a heads up, the next pc will feature a P4 with a LITTLE bit more horsepower, and another non-intel chipset. This time from the competitor to SIS, VIA. Now an AGP 8x slot motherboard deserves a full speed GPU. I will leave you with a hint for now

Just wanted to throw an update out here, getting W2K installed right now. Swapped the 3gb kit of ram out for a 256mb x2 kit of Siemens "Swiss Bit" DDR333 CAS2. Not utilizing the RAID functionality but am booting off the onboard Highpoint 370/372 IDE channel seeing as how the reviews back in the day stated that the SiS IDE is slower by 10-20% or something like that.

Lots of progress on the HX build, including an OS installed. Expect to see some pics of that posted soon and maybe a pic or two of the ultimate matx Windows XP 478 P4 build. 😉 I hope you guys like the color red, copper, and gaudy gold hehe.
