So I have my Ti 500 card it works well but I was given an AGP Geforce 6200 by someone and am wondering if i should swap.

So Geforce3
240/500, 4 pixel pipelines, 1 vertex shader, 64mb Ram, 128bit, 8 TMU's

Geforce 6200
350/400 4 pixel pipelines, 3 vertex shaders, 256mb Ram, 64bit, 4 TMU's

OVerall which one do yall think I should use, would the 6200 be noticable faster

That's why we benchmark. 😀 Have fun testing it, record lots of results with both cards, then you can make a better choice than any of us ever could. Best of all, you can share the bench #s here and we can all ogle them.

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.

if your goal is to play Win9x or early Win2k/XP games, the GF3 is the better option , especially in terms of compatibility (Splinter Cell for instance will display its shadows correctly on a GF3 , but not on a GF6200).

later XP games are not going to be fun with either, so I guess the final answer is probably the GF3.

That doesn't make sense if we don't know what kind of RAM it is and the effective frequency of said RAM.

Keep the Ti installed. Great 98SE compatibility, and no driver/game problems.

Is any data about worse compatibility of GF4 TI compared to GF3 in 9x and DOS?

They're pretty similar and whatever a GF3 can do, a GF4 can too, only better. Though a GF3 Ti 500 is nearly the same performance wise as a Ti 4200, so there's not much point in changing it out.

BTW, the 64bit 6200 sucks hard, not as compatible for Win98 gaming plus it's much slower in DX7/8 compared with the GF3.

Also consider the FX5900 Ultra, it can use slightly older drivers and can often be overclocked to the FX5950 clocks.

Older PC: K6-3+ 400@600MHz, PC-Chips M577, 256MB SDRAM, AWE64, Voodoo Banshee.

To have FX as main card on something intended also for DOS needs additional checking befor buying.
FX cards may don't work with VBE refresh utilities in DOS like Unirefresh or VBEHz. It's problem in case you'll want to use SVGA games in DOS on CRT as you'll get 60 Hz only. Some cards work, others on same chip - don't. Sometimes it's possible to get bios from other FX card wich handles refresh ok, but there is no guarantee you'll find such or don't get other issues from alien bios.

Ti 500 is actually not that easy to find. It's a high end card, often they perform very well, even compared to much newer budget cards.

I'm in a similar situation. Machine I'm currently typing this from is running a Ti 500, yet would like to have an FX59xx too. Maybe even dual boot with a different setup for each card but sharing the rest of the machine ...

oh I know its not easy to find, but there also isn't a big demand for them either, because the Geforce4 does the exact same stuff and has identical support but is faster.

I just ran 3DMark2001 on mine with an awkwardly low score; only 6300 marks. So I'll have to start over with my drivers setup and look into the CPU throttling because I noticed it's running strangely hot ...

With a Nforce 2 system you should get more points but the K7 can not throttle as far as I know.

Here is my Universal AGP test system running a Geforce 3 ti200 @ close to ti500 clocks. Windows 98SE.
