I remember someone referring to the ideal Quake 3 setup as the "Trinity" so here we are! A build based on that idea. First the specs:
-Hercules 3D Prophet 64mb TI 500
-Asus CUV4X-D
-4x512mb Crucial PC133 CL2
-Sequential serial numbered 1ghz/256/133 Coppermine Pentium 3's
-Maxtor DiamondMax 120gb ATA133
-Diamond Monster MX300
-MPX 100m/b LAN
All tucked away inside of an Aopen "custom pc" case

Do not have a screenshot handy but ran my first benchmark. 3Dmark 2001se completed on default settings scored 5031. Is that any good for this setup? Im wondering if using these new 2006 GPU drivers is affecting the score at all.

Not too bad of a score if I think that card has the gpu in thinking it has.

Nice build 😀.
And nice touch to use the sequential serial numbered Coppermines.

What OS are you running? And what PSU?
Your case looks like a solid choice 😀

I do want to mention I once tried using one of those type of Intel stock HSF and the green tab-whatever thingy (the thing that attaches the HSF to the CPU socket) snipped off very easily. I thought it had become brittle with age and after that I decided to avoid using those green HSF thingies (I think I may have ended up cannibalizing a metal clip from a spare CPU HSF).

Where was "Trinity" mentioned btw? 😊

Thanks! My next door neighbor built this system brand new and ordered the processors that way. Thanks for the heads up on the heatsinks! The powersupply is an Enermax Noisetaker 475watt, built like a tank. Running 2k Pro on it, easy setup and everything just works like a charm.

I can not remember what thread it was in, but it was on Vogons when discussing video card choices and someone mentioned that. It stuck in my head.

FWIW Trinity is the internal name for Quake3's renderer module and it was coined as early as 1997 in JohnC's .plan. Any matrix references are entirely coincidential

(though Doom3 is internally named Neo so... 😀 )

Nice build... I have a dual p3 1ghz too, but it is a Compaq ProLiant server board... I want to run some game on it too, but my motherboard doesn't have AGP... I have a GeForce 2 MX PCI but dont have any ideia if even boot's with it... Have to try it...
Also have a 3D Prophet, but mine is Kyro based one 😀 does the fan on your failed too????

Great build! I'm currently in the process of getting parts together for a similar build using a Abit VP6 board. I'm also going to use 1Ghz Coppermine's and either shove in a Radeon 9700 Pro or GF4 Ti4200.

Epic info Leileilol! Will try older drivers soon and post the results. I gave away a dual 1.4ghz Tually server. It was a 1u blade so. . .ya kinda limited. So far the fan is a bit noisy but works well, my card is soaked in a decades worth of cigarette smoke. The Geforce 2mx will be pretty limiting but should work well for alot of games, check the ongoing Tualiton pci thread for recommendations 😀
Bancho: Thanks! The ti4200 would be my choice, this system ran one from 2002 until shortly before I got it. Neighbor used it for Soldier of Fortune and BF1942
