Gutted a Dell Dimension XPS 4100 case and put its Pentium III parts into another case. The first order was to clean everything. Air compressor got rid of most of the dust and everything else was wiped down. Even the edges had grime on them removed via q-tips. Dell and Micron used Palo Alto ATCX cases for several years in the late 1990s. They are roomy, albeit narrow, but can take ATX motherboards. There were a couple issues here... I couldn't use the motherboard's I/O shield and I had to snip a piece of metal from the rear so it wouldn't interfere with my power supply's on/off switch.

Parts!
Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3P LGA1151 ATX motherboard
Rosewill 80+ modular power supply
Intel Skylake 6700K processor
32GB DDR4 RAM
ZALMAN CNPS9500 AT 2 cooler (just short enough to fit!)
A couple of ARCTIC F9 PWM 92mm fans
NVIDIA GTX 745 4GB (I don’t really game anymore but I had this lying around)
256GB Samsung 950 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD
2TB 7200RPM SATA HD
Beige DVD/RW SATA drive
3.5" USB 2.0 + 3.0 front panel, spray painted
Windows 10

Wow...just, wow. That is so cool looking! Great job, man. 😀 You should snip those metal pieces from the back eventually. Could leave a nice slice in a finger.

I bent them in a way so that wouldn't happen! Thanks for the compliment. Brightened up those front panels a bit as well http://i.imgur.com/fwe0E7Q.jpg

I second removeing the tabs on the back. Not only for safety but for better cooling.

Very nice system by the way. I done similar projects. Once I make better mounts for my ssds in my Sleeper I'll make a thread

It wouldn't make much of a difference for cooling. I did lighten up the front drive bay panels so they're less yellow and overall it looks better.

I wasn't even thinking of cooling, I was thinking aesthetics. The rest of the system looks so amazing.

Well there is that too. But being the back of the case I don't think it would be seen all to much. Still would be removed to make the system right.

I look at it as mostly being a safety problem and second a cooling problem.
I don't think it would make any noticeable cooling difference but it all adds up.

Still a very nice system and I like it. I always been a fan of new systems in old cases.

Thanks... the temperatures are in the description. It idles in the low 20s and gets around 55-60C full load. I think that's pretty impressive for the case
