Ummmmm RAM....

I found a NOS HP stick of ECC RAM and this is a major change because I always use Crucial/Micron. It's like taking a first step into a brave new world 😉 Hopefully I don't hyperventilate when I plug it into the motherboard.

Here is a horrible picture of the case I am planning to use. Once it arrives I will post some good pictures. I hope it's in great shape. It is coming with all the drive bay blanks, just not installed in picture.

The case came in and I didn't have time to get any pics. It's pretty flimsy metal, now I remember why I love the old OEM cases. Not sure what I'll do there.

I tested various games and it smokes Quake 3 and Serious Sam First Encounter. Thief did very well of course. I gotta get some headphones to my shop so I can test out Sensaura properly.

32-bit color with no performance penalty is nice and required for Delta Force 2, sorry Voodoo3.

I am even contemplating installing Windows ME ?!?!?!? Whaaaa???

Just need to finalize which case and sound card I will use and get it assembled.

Love this build so far. All the usage of new and beautiful retro parts somehow just makes it that much more special. Hope ya end up using that case you ordered and pictured! Flimsy metal or not I love the style and size of it. Like a knock of G3 of the appropriate color.

ODwilly,

Thanks a bunch. I am going to try and clean the case in the next few days and make a final decision. It has a few scuffs and slight dents.

I think I am going to use this cooler instead. It seems a lot more authentic and it's NOS.

I will get some better pics.

I decided to use the NOS heatsink. It's what someone would have used building their own PC back in the day.

Although NOS (New Old Stock) the CPU cooler fans are loud. I think they were made before the invention of round ball bearings. They have a pleasant sound like 10 penny nails in a blender on medium speed. Luckily I have some 50mm Delta fans that actually have ball bearings that are in fact round. Much, much better, silent actually.

I got a hold of the P13 BIOS and am currently looking for a VIA C3 Ezra-T CPU to test, also looking for a MSI 6905 Master Socket 370 to Slot 1 adapter.

Thanks gdjacobs.

I have been searching pretty hard and I think I might start a new thread soon to maybe get all the info together to try and identify these things. VIA made it pretty complicated to pin down.

The cpu fans could be due for a repack. The greas in the bearings could be dried up. Or they could just be loud fans in with case you could run them at 5v.

Anyway this system is looking good.
