Although NOS (New Old Stock) the CPU cooler fans are loud. I think they were made before the invention of round ball bearings. They have a pleasant sound like 10 penny nails in a blender on medium speed. Luckily I have some 50mm Delta fans that actually have ball bearings that are in fact round. Much, much better, silent actually.

Believe it or not, this HSF looks a LOT like the one I bought NIB over 10 years ago. I used mine to attach to a Katmai 550 and remember these fans being too loud for my tastes. I ended up replacing with 2 similarly sized (but slower rotating) Cooler Master fans I took from 2 NOS Cooler Master s370 HSFs and this solved the loud fan noise.
I don't think I still have the box though (though I might).

I'd say just replace the 2 fans with 2 of the same size and you should be good to go 😀

I have new Delta fans, I just need to get more mounting screws. Some of the hardware is still up in the air right now but should get it figured out soon.

Well, Delta fans are pretty powerful. What about unplugging them? Your stuff will eventually autorotate and land.

gdjacobs,

they are just 1-Watt 40mm Delta fans. Good, quiet and low power.

3DMark 99 Max

I didn't screen shot it yet but it was around 6,500. I have not run any benchmarks in a long time and maybe my memory is failing me. I am getting almost identical scores in default 800x600x16 / 16-bit z-buffer and 1024x768x32 / 24-bit z-buffer. Does this sound right to you guys? I thought for sure that there would be some difference.

I'm not sure that V-Sync was off for DirectX on my run but it looks comparable to this.
