Formly the fx-60 biuld witch was canned do to dead and damage parts.

So after many set backs on my current build that was suppose to be a 440bx system, then a 423 system, then a 775 system then a 939 fx60 system, bad cpu, ram hearsink even.
Well a lot of stuff was ether DOA, out of stock or went missing in the mail :depressed:

Anyway I must move on.

Parts list:
DFI dk-x48-t2rsb plus.
Qx9650
2 ATI 4890.
Mitsubishi Diamond pro 19" CRT.
X-718 mouse.
75% white Alps keyboard. (may paint)
8gb 1066mhz ddr2.
6 300gb raptor hdds in Raid 0.
Silver Thermaltake armor LCS.
Audiotrak prodigy hd2 sound card.
Asus silver dvd drive.
LS-120 drive.
Vista.
All low RPM scythe fans.
Full lcs. D5 bay rez pump, 2 120mm and a 240mm rads with 3/8" uv green tubing and a xspc raystorm block.

OK so the system will be silent aside from the HDD's the case fans are 7.5~10dBa so I should be able to make out the 6 raptor hdd's in raid over everything.

Unlike other systems I put together I'll be sticking with this one and post everything I do with the build log until its done.

Hardware mods

first mod is the motherboard heat pipe mod.
This was a common mod for abit ax78 and ip35. Basically you remove the stock pads and replace it with TIM. Then ditch the push pins for nuts and bolts.

So I did my first bench on the system
I ran HD tune wile installing some apps and downloading drivers.

Who needs an ssd when you have 6 drives in raid 0 ?

download/file.php?id=39370&t=1
And here is HD tune with nothing running.
download/file.php?id=39376&mode=view
Not too bad, but the burst rate could be better.

And WEI, not the it means anything. This was with a 6990, will rerun when I get the 4890's

Oh man, I had that motherboard back in the day. My housemate did too along with a few other people I know IIRC. It was a pretty popular board around here. Well priced with a good feature set, plus Fatal1ty himself was still a fairly well known name at that point in time.

Mine was running an Athlon 64 X2 5400+ and two Gigabyte 7600GT's in SLI. What a mess SLI was back then.

Hope the build goes well for you

Last of the parts should get here today. If so I'll finish the build tonight.
I also added more info/photos of the case/video cards.
The red PCB and blue heat sinks go well together.

Why go with 7950GT's, a pair of 7900GTX cards would be amazing, I have a pair myself, and why they can't be passivly cooled the run very quiet, i can't hear them.

Than a 7900 GTX ?
No, it isn't.
Check clock speeds, 7900 GTX has 650MHz Core clock and 1600MHz GDDR3 memory clock.
Default for 7950 GT is 550MHz Core and 1400MHz Memory.
You may be able to OC'ed 7950 GT to 7900 GTX level.

That's for 512mb cards.(just looked it up) The 256mb cards had different clocks witch is what i was comparing.
Also go find two reference 7900gtx cards with a dark red PCB.

If i recall right the 265mb 7900gtx were crippled by OEMs. Wile the 256mb 7950gt was not. Abd i never had a 512mb 7900gtx to compare.

I also have a pare of 8800gt with red PCB, but they would run way fo hot with the vnf100. The 7950gt ratger hot as it is.

Well this sucks, looking at the boards history in the bios, yes the board logs its usage, power offs, reboots, power on hours and average temps and fan speeds. Looks like the motherboard fans have been dead for a very long time. :dead:

I think i may just return the board and find a second one. It was sold to me as being in perfect working order, but all 3 fans are bad. Id hate to compete the build only to need to replace the board right after words. It's

You might be hard-pressed to find one whose fans haven't died. Abit used some reeeeal shitty chipset fans around that time. (To be fair, so did everyone else.)

Agreed. But tge sekker did state they were 100% wirking witch makes me mad.
And I have mote bad news. The hr-01 heatsink has damaged pipes. :dead:
My recent track record or used parts.

3 of 6 motherboards doa
1 board dead fans.
2 boards never shipped.
2 bad cpu's
4 bad sticks of ram
2 damaged sticks of pc166 but was simply fixable.
1 bad hdd
1 damaged cpu heatsink.
4 good video cards.
2 working sticks of ram.
One goid ls120 drive.
One good cd drive.

Talk about bad luck. I found that the ddr550 i gotns bad too :dead:
I need to find the witch that cursed me.

Well ill keep the board, but ill be bumping up my next build, this one sould not have anywhere as many problems.

Edit. OP edited. Bumping up my next build. The case is coming from Germany so it will take some tome to complete, but i have alot of oarts to mod and refurb before I can start. Suck as the water cooling system.

Make sure the fan headers aren't burned out. Happens sometimes when fans seize up and overload the transistor driving them.
