Behold! Mighty Katmai arrives along with 1GB of RAM and my usual mess 😀

Had to tune it down with GPU, because with GF2GTS my PSU craps out. This board is very picky about it, and apparently shuts down system with even slight drop on +5V rail. I thought it was dead because of that first time I tested it, but it only predicted the death of PSU I was using then. It died few days later for good. I mean PSU, not board thankfully 😁 In regards with graphics card, I think I will go with Matrox G450. It should match this setup nicely.

First time I stripped cooling from SECC2 Slot 1 procesor. I disassembled Pentium II once, but it was much easier. Those plastic clips are horrible! I hope my cpus didn't died, because I used a lot of force. I ordered brand new Titan coolers to match those two. Apparently big online shop still sells them here in Poland dirt cheap.

Funny... I always considered Katmai junk, and never bothered to keep any - I never thought it'll become retro one day!

Unfortunately this board doesn't support Coppermine processors so basically Katmai 600MHz is fastest it can get despite being BX440 board. It's DTK PRM-0081i btw.

But often hardware which isn't very popular in it's day, becomes sought after. Voodoo 5 back in it's day wasn't popular at all as well as for example Socket 423 platform.

EDIT:
Apparently this motherboard has support for Coppermine CPUs but I failed to boot any (even single 500E). Further investigation is needed 😀
