If the system was bought in 1995, it's probably a socket 5 machine. Personally I recall seeing IBM Aptiva machines in this form factor only in socket 5, nothing in socket 7, witch means the pentium 200 will not work on it, since that is a dual-voltage chip. What you need is a non MMX pentium 200 (single voltage) or a pentium 200 mmx overdrive.

Here's a link with specs for your machine: http://mastodonpc.tripod.com/personal/2144-141.html

Great find, awsome machine!

That's a sweet system, may you please message me/ email me? cbxox2@hotmail.com

Sorry to resurrect an old thread (or maybe that's OK around here, since we resurrect old computers? 😀 ), but I've been trying to track down those speakers for ages! 😳

I once had a complete Aptiva 2168-A40 setup, bought brand new back in the day, and I (incredibly foolishly!) threw it out when it went on the fritz... Years later, I decided to reassemble the whole setup, and the only thing I still need is the speakers!

Do those speakers have some sort of identifying marking on them? Brand, model number, etc.? I figured out the FRU several years ago, but alas, a saved search on eBay has never reaped anything...

Alternatively, Keith1212, would you be willing to sell them? (Normally this is the sort of thing I'd ask in a PM, but your profile doesn't have any contact info on it. So I apologize if asking this in a public thread is a forum faux pas.) If you'd rather keep the whole system together, I totally understand 😀

Er, also: Hi, I'm new here, hehe 🤣 Long-time lurker, first-time poster, all-life lover of tech, with a skew towards old computers 😀 I won't bother being a braggart about what I have; suffice it to say, I've spent more on old computers than I have on my car, and it's a 2015, heh 😁

I have tried restoring my 100mhz pentium machine with the opti viper chipset with these images. and i get the "99 - invalid path specified" error. and it halts after formatting the hard drive. It doesn't look as though it tries to do anything from the cd.

Does anyone know what is going on?
