I built this without any idea in what period it fits, mainly for playing XP era games.

MB: ASRock P4VM890 - a rare and interesting gem - P4, VIA chipset and PCI-E.
GPU: nVidia Geforce 7300LE 256MB
RAM:2x256MB DDR400
HDD: 2x Western Digital WD800 - one is WD800JB and the other is a 800BB. Both PATA, 80GB.
PSU: Delta DPS-300PB-2A 120mm 300W
ODD: H-L DVD-RW GSA-H55N/Teac CD-540E
Case: JNC "TAC" RJA-52 - black/white front panel
OS: Windows XP SP3 MCE 2005 on the JB, XP SP3 Pro on the BB.

And here's a shot (quite crappy, don't know why it came out that bad from a 16MP camera of a Galaxy Note 4...)

You could pull off a nice system with these. What processor do you have installed at the moment?
Depending on the games you want to play, that videocard will be a serious bottleneck, it's roughly on par with a GeForce 6200, but the memory bit bus kills it (64bit 🙁). Should be maybe around GeForce FX 5700 levels of performance, so realistically you can play most games from 2003 and 2004 somewhat nicely.

Since this is PCI Express, you can easily grab a 7600GS or 7600GT for cheap and then you can expect somewhat lower or somewhat higher levels of performance than a GeForce 6800GT depending on which one you got. Or you can go even crazier and just grab bargains since you're not on AGP 😊

Probably just a "let's use up some old but working parts" build from... first half 2007? (Judging by the BIOS release dates for that board). I know I got my Biostar P4M80-M4 (s478, AGP, P4M800 chipset) new in May of 2006, and all of the pre-built machines that shop was building at that point were s775 and s939-based.

Also, what CPU? 😊

Pentium 4, 2.6GHz, Northwood core.

Could've went completely overkill and go for a 3GHz Prescott HT but then I figured it might suit better for a AGP full-size board than a microATX.

I could have used a HD3450 (had one) but I gave it away to a friend.

Anyways,I'm happy to hear it at least comes close to a FX5700 in terms of performance.

SW-SSG - I have that Biostar too! It came from a junked machine (missing the faceplate) with a 2.8GHz Celeron D, which I eventually replaced with a Pentium 4 of the same speed but Northwood core. ( I have a boatload of them, along with a few Willamettes and a few Prescotts as well)

CPU is nice, more so if it uses the 533MHz or 800MHz FSB instead of the 400MHz one. Prescott is needlessly hot to be honest, you could aim for a Northwood 3.0 or 3.2GHz, but you're not really missing that much at the moment. Perhaps something to consider in the future when you've also upgraded the video card.
