After googling compare the image of the sbc that came with the box i notice it was a Advantech PCA-6751 😀 sure the case was a bit higher that i wanted but for $121.88 with shipment and import charge i cant be sad any more 😀

Oh, I used that SBC at an early stage, when I did not have a case yet.
tillamook_1.jpg tillamook_2.jpg tillamook_3.jpg
It's a beautiful card, very reliable - mobile and fanless pentium MMX 266mhz, 430HX chipet and video chip with good compatibility - C&T 69000. Unfortunately, when I received this case, i realize that PCA-6751 was too hot for him.
Then in short period of time i was use with it IEI PAC-53GH 4 slot chassis and i think any similar 4 slot chassis should be ok too.
https://www.ieiworld.com/ru/product/model.php?II=174
But this one very very good, with two frontal USB ports - right just for PCA-6751. Replaced it with Acrosser because i tired of any noise (PAC-53GH has one small fan in their PSU).

Now my plan will be try to find a case with pci and isa backplane and switch the pca-6751 with the 486 sbc so i can use the pca-6751 with a 3dfx card and still have two units that are as nice and beautiful as your system 😁

How do you planning use 3dfx with ISA pair SBC/backplane? You need PISA (PCI + ISA) pair SBC/backplane for that.

Cool, you really opened my eyes to sbc computers and now I’m all in 😀

My plan is to switch the sbc card with the 486 sbc that I will receive and the get a new box with isa and pci backplane to put the PCa-6751 in with a 3dfx card 😉

Again, PCA-6751 doesn't have external PCI bus, only integrated devices lies on PCI bus - IDE, VGA, LAN. You need some PISA SBC to get 3dfx working among with SBC and some ISA devices through PISA (PCI + ISA) backplane.
Something like this or this.
Pure PCI SBCs also suitable but in this case you will be limited to PC/104 bus if you planning to get some ISA sound too - very rare and expensive boards, based on ESS and early Creative chips.

Also keep in mind - if you get some chassis, there is no guarantee that PCI or PISA backplane suitable for it (by dimensions and screw hole positions) exist at all.

Where you see "all these"? 😀 I have only one CRT (and one TFT, mentioned on first page). Did you mean photo with headcrab and some Cannon Fodder fun on display? This is screen filter by Polaroid attached to CRT display from first post. 😀 Cheap and dirty film. I need similar with SC-suffix (CP-60SC). That one made of pure glass. Don't see it in the wild yet.

Yeah, something like this. But i don't have any experience with subj related PCI or PISA components. Here may be any unwanted and evil tricks.

No problem here. I will be glad to see discuss around entire concept, not only specific setup.

P.S. And also, i won't recommend to anyone my current SBC - Advantech PCA-6740. It forces scaling any video resolution to 640x480 and have some issues with DMA 1 and 5. Despite of this i prefer it, but it's a very personal subjective choice.

Aren't the CPUs integrated into some of those STpcs basically Cyrix 5x86s running at 133MHz?

Yeah, that's it. STMicroelectronics (former SGS-Thomson) uses Cyrix Cx486 core in their SoCs but on more modern manufacturing process with less heat producion.

I talked to fast, finally got my hands on advantech MBPC-641 chassis with a sbc and backplane.

I wasn’t that sure the seller on eBay would accept go from $500 canada + shipping to $150 Canada including shipping 😀

I think I bought all Eaton cutler hammer netlink devises on eBay, Eaton made them as a web interface for their ups’s.

Oh, i see two slightly different Netlinks in completed listings on ebay. One is 5 slot chassis from US. Another is 4 slot chassis from Canada with separate COM/LPT holes. I see PCA-6751 SBC on first deal. Very good SBC for our retro vagaries, IMHO. Do you bought both?

Yes I did get both of them, also there was another one in United Kingdom’s whit built in screen but I ended up only buying the sbc since sending the hole unit would cost 5 times more the the price for the unit.

In an unrelated note I do have the Sertek S521 sound card that I bought recently - but mine is a version with ESS688 + real opl3 . Finding working ESS688 DOS drivers is quite a challenge though....

wfIkd57m.jpg

Can't find anywhere any other photo of your S521 revision with 688 + YMF262, only newer revisions based on ES1688. keropi, where did you get that bizarre thing? 😀
Also interesting, how to get to work WB interface on 688 based cards under DOS? I hear, it disabled by default and need activation by some TSR?

I have not tested the wt header - or anything other than the sb+fm part of the card. There are jumpers to select either "sb midi" or "mpu-401" I have no idea what that does. Also no idea about mpu driver... Finding good 688 drivers was a challenge btw.
Card came from eBay...

SB MIDI was a proprietary MIDI "standard" Creative used up to the SB Pro. You want to set that jumper to MPU-401, as there's probably nothing that uses SB MIDI anyway.

Powering to work alone, without passive backplane. Keep in mind that regular power adaptors with molex like this one not providing enough power for it.

I could be wrong but i belive it would work if you get the 5A version, normally whit usb disk connectores comes with 2.5A.

The PCA-6751 specs says:

Mechanical and Environmental

  • Dimension (L x W) 185 x 122 mm (7.3” x 4.8”)
  • Weight 0.27 kg (weight of total package)
  • Operating Temperature 0 ~ 70° C (32 ~ 158° F), operation
  • Operating Humidity 0% ~ 90% relative humidity, non-condensing
  • Power Supply Voltage +5 V ± 5%
  • Power Consumption Max : 5 V @ 5 A
    Typical : 5 V @ 2.5 A (128 MB DRAM)

I just came accross a some thing like this in swedish site: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Phobya-Power-Adapter … t/dp/B003TRT7FA

It could be just good to test cards, not as retro deskcomputer since you cant run anything els 😀
