Got bored of not having a "retro" pc anymore after moving into a tiny rented single room...and there is only so much DosBox for me.

Grabbed a beige case i saved from a butchered socket A build that was going in the bin

Had a rummage through my spares pile and grabbed this old Gigabyte LGA775 board. I will have a floppy and IDE CDROM in this so the connectors are ideal.

All together and running with XP at the moment. I may throw a suitable PCI sound card and better GPU and do a DOS / XP dual boot at some point...

Decided to switch across to a black mAtx case i had laying about from a Fujitsu OEM build, still stuck with the floppy and ata DVD combo drive.

Whilst it was out I switched to a CoolerMaster cooler fitted with my trusty Artic PWM fan, so much more quiet that the stock one... I also upped the CPU to an E7500 i had laying about with the latest beta Gigabyte bios for this board.

Seems the 945 chipset cant quite see the full 4gb of ram even in a 64bit os, but hardly worth changing as they are a nice matched pair of DDR2 sticks...
Settled with XP for the moment, but may use this as a VM mini-lab instead with KVM or an older version of ESXi which supports the C2D cpu's - unless anyone has any interesting suggestions?

Seeing as you've got a passively-cooled GPU in there now, I would go ahead and slap an exhaust fan on that empty grille at the back of the case.

Its on order....has to match after all! Although i will mention the GT710 is temporary until i decide on what exactly im doing with this machine and select a card to suit 😕
