So I thought the system was dead because it decided to not turn on anymore, took apart the system

Here comes the derp moment.

It was a dead CR2032

Well at least I was able to install the Slot retention bracket.

I upgraded the 30GB Quantum potato I was using to a 80GB WD Caviar SE.

Crazy how much faster replacing that drive made the whole system.

thought about going for solid state? or you wanna keep it era specific. hot system btw!

Thanks for the complement

A part of me wanted to use an SSD but the lack of TRIM kind of prevents me from using an SSD.

Upgraded the Live to an Audigy 2 ZS and turns out my Voodoo5 5500 isn't dead after all so replaced the Voodoo4 with that.

I'll post a new pic of the rig later.

Had to go back to the Live, VXD wasn't working period with the Audigy 2 ZS, kept bringing up a missing driver file. Didn't want to use it in WDM mode.

I finally got around to upgrading the PSU, swapped it for a 500W PC Power and Cooling MKIII, the one with 24a on both the 3.3 and 5 volt rails.

I'll post a photo later when I get a chance.

I was going to mention the PSU, but happy to see that you already replaced it =)

Very nice to see someone use this iconic (and heavy!) ATX tower case! Legendary back in its day and it seems archaic for how modern it really was back when it was new.
I only found 2 of those towers fairly recently and never ended up using one for a build (perhaps one day).

And nice to see someone make an RDRAM P3 build =)
Yours is much faster than my own RDRAM P3 build (using a slot 1 933MHz iirc), but mine was (from what I read about how much trouble you had setting yours up) almost effortlessly to build up after I had swapped the motherboard with another one.

Nice, clean and lean setup.

Btw, you still noticing any significant differences when you upgraded to your 80GB from your 30GB Quantum potato? 😜

Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, switching the drives made a massive difference, IIRC I went from a 256k cache 45oo rpm drive to a 2mb cache 7200 rpm drive.

Thanks 😀
