Just for the kicks, couple of other specimens of the same ilk from the internet. Brace yourselves 😁

It's absolutely hideous, but.... In a weird way, I kinda like it. It's a separation from the typical "beige rectangular box" computers that were oh-so-common in the mid to late 90's.

It's even worse when combined with translucent plastic. Bonus points if they come with a Pentium 4 CPU. I think these cases represent the exact moment when I stopped giving a crap about building new PCs.
Whoever designed these ugly protruding bezels deserves to be shot. These things are just the worst to deal with. When you open them, you can't put them flat on their side, and they're just about impossible to stack if you have a lot of them.

HP and Compaq had this weird thing with CD holders in their cases in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Isn't that one of the ATX variants of it? IIRC there were a few Presarios that used standard Gigabyte GA-5SMM motherboards.

For me those COMPAQs are not as worse as the translucent blue / grey HP Pavilions:

I remember newer, bluer, uglier version of that pavilion. I haven't been able to find a picture of it though.

Hmm...maybe It was a Compaq. I remember it looking just like this, but I was pretty sure it was an HP. Regardless, whenever I see one of these I want to get a hammer and smash its face off. It looks like it can't even sit flat when it's upright because its ugly face has too much overhang, forcing it to tilt upward.
I remember having to work on one of these, and when I put it on its side, it would rock back and forth like a cradle.

Meet Seth Orangston. As a senior design consultant, he led Compaq to take bold risks in the otherwise conservative area of PC case design.

This would be such a great sleeper candidate.

This thread is offending my eyeballs, yet I can't look away. (I would also gladly take the subdued translucent gray HP over the accident-at-the-plastic-factory Compaq "with wings!" Good gawd those are horrid.)

So I'm not the only one who dislikes Compaq's big ass Cobra Commander bezels. IMHO, any PC with superfluous plastic bezels looks bad.. *cough* IBM Aptiva *cough*

But Cobra Commander... That one was the worst. 😁
