IIRC from what I've heard, there's a WinME copy that is crash free, with the trade-off being to defrag the HDD continuously.
Though I can tell why it's not liked as much, removed real-mode DOS isn't really that cool.

I tested and discarded seven video cards and 6 sound cards.
the best configuration for the 130 games on Dell OptiPlex GX240 Small Desktop Computer is:
Windows Millennium (best retro windows), GeForce 4 mx440 64 bit 🙁, Creative Audigy 1 sb0090, 512 ram, pentium 4 Northwood 2 Ghz.
Games Bug:
- Age of Empires 1997 have a midi bug, after playng 2-3 midi, the midi music go crazy and choppy only if you select synthg A or synth B;
- Prehistorik 2 music are choppy, fx sound are good;
- Rayman no music, only fx sound;
- Mass Destruction no music, only fx sound.
- Midtown Madness: Click ok to detect video (Display Adapters Redetected When You Start Game)
