This is my "finished" super-socket 7 system.

  • K6-2 / 500 AFX
  • OEM socket A cooler, with a little more strenght on the clip... , replaced with a 60mm silent fan.
  • Shuttle HOT 597 (VIA MVP3)
  • 64Mb SD-RAM PC100
  • actually installed: Riva 128 , will be replaced later with: RivaTNT2
  • ISA sound card - Avance logic ALS100+
  • MPU401 - Dreamblaster S1
  • IDE to SD adapter with a 32Gb SD card inside. Much more than i'll need...
  • Lite-On optical drive. 32x speed. The CD writer function is not needed.
  • 3.5" disk drive
  • Levicom WIN-350PS (350W), with fully recapped capacitors (the medium, big and biggest capacitors), also replaced the PSU fan with two 80mm Arctic F8 silent
  • 92mm case fan - Arctic F9 silent
  • Chieftec ATX case - beige

Originally, I've searched a period correct case for that system. I had bought this beige case from ebay long time ago.
A chieftec, but not the one i 've had myself back in the day. It is more flat at the front panel. After i have changed my opinion to sell this case again,
I have switched the plan to rebuild this super socket 7 system.

Sure, a K6-2+ or K6-3+ would be nice, but with the money i've spent back in the day (~10€ including board), the K6-2 is fast and flexible enough to my needs.
To bad that i've lost my V3-2000 back in the day. It was a time when you have no interest to old hardware anymore...

Right now, i am playing with the installed Riva128: Tomb Raider

Love the design of those Chieftec tower cases. I use a similar one for my Athlon64 rig, only it's dark gray in color.

Back in the day, when I first got that case, my friends would come over and ask why I'm using a server as my home PC. 😁

PC#3: Athlon64 3400+ / Asus K8V-MX / 5900XT / Audigy2

It looks nice, but having a door covering up the drive bays is a pretty terrible idea if you have to access the drives underneath frequently. It's especially annoying if you have a tray loading CD-ROM drive and the software automatically ejects it when the case door is closed.
I guess you could take the door off, but then the case wouldn't look nearly as nice.

BTW, aren't these cases made by Antec? Are Chieftec and Antec the same company?

I always thought Antec was the one doing the re-branding .This article, if accurate, makes this seem likelier than the opposite : https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=aut … g/wiki/Chieftec

Yes, when you change CD's every time you have to open the front door. But I got used to it to handle this. When you change CD several times you let it open of course.

From point of view there is only a problem, if you eject the CD manually and the tray collides with the door, or with software like a CD burn program.

Because i will not use this kind of software on this PC and i'll try not to open per windows the cd-rom tray, i think there is no problem...

They're all Chenming towers sold under different brand names and upon request with slight variations. Many computer companies do not build their own stuff but buy complete products or have products designed and built for them by third parties according to their specification request.
Others license designs to build them at their own plants. I'm not sure who built Chieftec's Dragon cases but the design is Chenming.

Latest try with the setting 100Mhz x 5,5 = 550 MHz @standard voltage of 2.2V has failed.

So i will still clock the K6-2 at its stock setting of 500MHz. For more i would need 2.3V or 2.4V

Cause i have the athlon thunderbird as follow-up, there is no need of overclock and overvolting...
athlon thunderbird :
