I pick up this IBM desktop for very little money.

It has a video memory problem.
Can we fix it ?

I will first try to re-seat the video DRAM chips and if that does not fix the problem I will try to re-float the onboard video DRAM chips.

I hope its an easy fix.

I really like the clean simple look of these IBM computers.
These are the types of IBM desktop computers we used in computer education school.
This computer sold for about $2,400 back in 1994.

This one is going to run Win95.

Anyone know where I can get the original recovery CD ?

Specs:
CPU - Pentium 90
RAM - 16mb.
Cache - 256kb.
Graphics - PCI S3 Vision 864
Audio - Crystal

Operating Systems - DOS , Win3.11, IBM OS2 v3

Hello. Gladly I have one for your model (I've bought one couple of years ago). PM sent.

Thanks so much. I will try it out.

Progress update:

Well it is working.
I re-seat the onboard video DRAM chips first to see if that would fix the video problem
But it did not. So the problem must be with the onboard 1mb. DRAM chips PCB surface mount solder joints.
I may work on that later but for now I just want to make sure everything else works fine. Before
I spend time soldering the motherboard. I installed a PCI video card in the mean time and it appears to be working fine.

I also had to add another IBM hard drive as the old one was pretty slow and unreliable.
I had a 1.7gb IBM hard drive in storage so I am using that and it works fine in this computer.
The bios supports it. Also the original CDROM was dead so I had to replace that too. i will try to fix later.

But the GOOD NEWS is its working.

It appears to be working okay.
Passes all system tests.
I am using an S3 Vision864 PCI video card.

What is a good supported network card for OS2 that has built in drivers ?
I have a 3com 3c509b will it work ?
I know it works in DOS and Win3.11

This is what really sets IBM apart from all the other computer builders.
It’s the scripts, tools, menus. and batch files they provide for easy navigation and administration of the computer.

This is the big brother of my first computer, which I still possess! (These were very cool systems back in the day!)

We also had one of these systems fitted with a Pentium 100, but I only kept the 486, as it was my first computer!

I think it's in need of a Pentium overdrive chip!

These system could be configured with a microchannel riser as well, making them some of the fastest x86 MCA machines availiable.
I own a 6886 Model 750 with 133 MHz Pentium and microchannel as well as a Model 330 with PCI /ISA riser.
Thanks for the recovery CD link, I need to try this on the 6886.
http://ps-2.kev009.com/eprmhtml/eprm/f4.htm has lots of useful info on these systems.
