Like to show of my daily 3dfx Gaming system. Its a 478 socket with a Pentium 4 northwood 533FSB. I choose win2000 because driver support for the Onkyo Sound board and promise controller.
Maybe switch to a prescott if my board take it. Need to test.
Otherwise anything working perfect. The Voodoo perform great on 1600x1200 with FAAx2.
I dont oc the voodoo at all. Its a daily system. Running Diablo 2 with Glide FAAx4 800x600 on a crt looks so good...
The voodoo has got complete new caps, Tantals and FETs, new fans and cooler. The Asus MB also has new caps.
An SSD runs on a promise fasttrack S150 S4 with win2000 SP4. As Sound source i use a Onkyo SE200 LE with a PCI shield. 2GB RAMs ddr400 installed.

Parts:

MB: Asus P4S533-E
CPU: Pentium 4 Northwood 533FSB 3,06GHz
RAM: 2x 256 MB DDR-400
GPU: Voodoo 5500 AGP 64MB
SPU: Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
SsD: 500Gb @ sata3114 Controller
OS: Windows 98SE
PSU: be quiet! 450W

Base clock 166, custom win2k driver, the AmigaMerlin get higher score but prefer this one for win2k gaming:

Nice to see someone else gaming on Win2k. Often overlooked but really is a nice OS for gaming.
Jealous you have a V5 and with the work done on it you should have it for a good few more years yet.
Also jealous you have enough spare time to play D2 daily 😀

And the Mugen 2 is my goto cooler for S478, even though I don't overclock either! anything to keep P4 temps down right?

The P4 3.06 with HT and W2K is a nice pairing for the low-end experience, I want to do something similar one of these days. Very nice, I bet it's fun to drive.

Nice to see that V5 is getting the love it deserves. I'll post my V5 system one day, not as nice as this one though.

Does the Onkyo SE200 LE have any 3D sound features?

it has some 3d options called "Immezio 3d Effects". Looks like it work with A3d but not with EAX.

That's better than nothing!👍 Even if it's just software/driver based 3D sound with the 3GHz P4 it'll be fine.
Anyway, cool looking card!

I'll be honest: I've never been able to hear a difference between highend and mid tier sound cards. Not even sure if my headphones are good enough for me to be able to hear it. My speakers certainly ain't. 😭😂

How good is the Onkyo SE200 Ltd, as it appears to be a pretty well thought out design!

How does it compare to a Creative, as far as the noise floor and sound quality's concerned?

Far as i tested the sound board is has a huge + when it comes to voices. It sounds fantastic. I had a Sb Audigy 2 ZS before installed, what is also a very nice card.
But you notice a difference for sure. If you you like it or not is another thing. But its worth a try!
The SE200 can be found cheap with proxi service on yahoo.jp for around 40 bugs..
But driver support starts at windows 2000. So win98 is not an option what maybe is a killer for the most systems.

Thanks very much!

I'm considering fitting one of these into my Dual PIII build, as it's something different.

I got a new CPU that i want to test against the northwood. Its a prescott socket 478 2,8GHz FSB533 (last one before switch to fsb800) 1MB Cache. It has no HT, but what i read scale the voodoo with the 1mb cache more. Will see if this is the fastest Pentium for a AGP voodoo.
Also got another mainboard for testing agp 3,3V.

Fsb400 went all the way up to 3GHz, and 533 up to 3.06 (with hyper threading, though)

Please use the "quote" option if asking questions to what I write - it will really up the chances of me noticing 😀

I run a v5 with an e5800, so core2duo arch, at 3.2ghz. Think thats about as fast as you can go in singlethread performance. And benchmarking games i get the exact same scores as philscomputerlab voodoo bench, that was running a p3 at 1.1ghz.

Theres a difference at low-res 640x480 and 800x600, but who cares about lowres. Its not a very cpu demanding card.

I got some problems with the controller and decited to go back to Win98SE.
For that i switched the Soundcard and the sata controller.
Installed with Amigamerlin 2.9 the 5500 (base clock 166) perform better as on win2k.
