Hello All,

I'm 54 years old and have fond memories of the computer days circa mid to later 1990's and even earlier but that's another story. 😀

Anyway, I finally pulled the trigger and have me a circa 1998 or so, retro gaming rig. It has the following specs:

Intel SE440BX PIII 450Mhz
BIOS Rev. 4S4EB0X1.86A.0032.P12
256MB, 75GB, 3.5FD, Voodoo Banshee 16MB, SB Live, CT7160 MPEG-2 PCI Decoder, 3Com 3C905B-TX PCI NIC, Iomega Zip 100, Creative 5x PC-DVD, 36x CD, Win 98SE

I've been having a blast with it so far, running classic games such as Sports Car GT (An all time fave), Viper Racing, NFS Porsche Unleashed.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my Retro machine with everyone!

Thanks!

Tony.

ASUS P2B-F 440BX BIOS Rev. 1014 Beta 003
Intel "Katmai" Pentium III 450Mhz
256MB, 80GB, Epson SD-800 Combo FD, Voodoo Banshee 16MB, SB Live, CT7160 MPEG-2 PCI Decoder, 3Com 3C905B-TX PCI NIC, Iomega Zip 100, Creative PC-DVD, Sony CDRW, Win 98SE

The Zip drive and the optical drives with headphone jacks really pull it all together, beautiful system!

Thank you! I love having the dual optical drives, especially the Creative PC DVD drive with the decoder card. It's been great watching DVD's on my Retro rig!

Still wanna post some pics of the inside, but haven't taken the time to break it down again. Too busy enjoying using it daily. 😀

Best wishes,

Tony.

I am aroused about any X86 motherboard that has full functional ISA slot. I think i have problem. Not really into that original (Turbo) XT,286,386 and CGA/EGA stuff. So just a DOS nut.
PS. If I upload RAR, it is a 16-bit DOS RAR Version 2.50.

Lol! True, even the poor pics are beige or perhaps closer to sepia tone! 😉

Welcome, Tony! It's wonderful to have you here! I'm Gabriel.

Something tells me you like cars, but I'm still not sure what! Haha

Was it easy to find these parts, or did you find the computer pre-built? Was there a challenge to set everything up?

Thanks for the welcome! Nice to meet you Gabriel!

I do like cars, which probably explains why I spend a lot of my gaming time playing racing/driving sims. 😉 I love GT Touring car racing!

I actually bought this one already built. I knew what I wanted in my Retro rig so when I came across this one that had components I wanted like the Intel SE440BX MB, Banshee video card etc it made sense to buy it. I had to purchase the PS/2 keyboard and trackball separately. I also added the 3Com NIC for networking. And I flashed the BIOS with a newer version as the version it came with was recognizing the PIII in it as a Pentium Pro! 😮 I also have a CD burner coming that I'm going to install in place of the current CD drive that's in it. Will be nice and convenient to be able to burn CD's on it. And I would like to put a 5.25" 1.2MB floppy drive in it eventually.

Best wishes,

Tony.

You take Hogan's Alley really seriously.

I was at a loss for words when this was originally posted but you're right! Not sure why he posted that in this particular thread about my Retro rig. Oh well.

This is intriguing.
Very "eastern" humour.

That would be "no" on both accounts. 🙂

Hey All,

The Sony CRX230A-U CDRW that I purchased arrived and I installed it this evening , replacing the Daewoo CD drive that was in it. Now I'll be able to conveniently burn CD's on my Retro rig, etc. While installing it, I took the opportunity to take some better pics as shown below. BTW, the little shadow dots you see are a result of dropping my phone one to many times, thus the camera spots. 😁

Best wishes,

Tony.
