Hey All,

The Sony CRX230A-U CDRW that I purchased arrived and I installed it this evening , replacing the Daewoo CD drive that was in it. Now I'll be able to conveniently burn CD's on my Retro rig, etc. While installing it, I took the opportunity to take some better pics as shown below. BTW, the little shadow dots you see are a result of dropping my phone one to many times, thus the camera spots. 😁

Best wishes,

Tony.

Damn, Tony! That case is on point! Which brand/model is that? I bought the case I'm going to use on my Windows 98 machine, but especially this week I started paying too much attention to it, maybe enough to make me start disliking it. I think I should buy another one! haha

Hey Gabriel,

Thanks! Glad you like the case! Not sure of any specific brand or model, just one of those generic type deals I guess. 😀 But I really do like it too since it reminds me of a similar case I had back on the late 90's. Plus it has plenty of 5.25 and 3.5 bays for all kinds of goodies! 😉

Best wishes,

Tony.

P.S. Looking forward to seeing your 98 rig!

Just a quick update on some changes I made to my Retro Rig.

First, I replaced the existing Intel SE440BX motherboard with an ASUS P2B-F board, that I then flashed with the 1014 Beta 003 BIOS. I replaced the Intel board because my version doesn't support anything faster than 450Mhz and secondly, it would only support a single floppy drive...

...which leads me to the second "upgrade." I installed an Epson SD-800 dual floppy drive. Now I have can access both 3.5" and 5.25" disks! I had a drive similar to this back in the 90's out of necessity then. I only had 2 5.25 bays in that PC and one had my CD drive that I installed and the other had the 3.5 drive. A lot of software still came on 5.25 floppies back then so I installed the combo drive. So this setup in my Retro Rig is also nostalgic and brings back lots of good memories for me!

Anyway, here's a couple of pics with the new board and drive installed.

PS - I disconnected the existing 3.5" drive completely but left it in until I get another face plate to fill that bay.

Best wishes,

Tony.
