Greetings and welcome to another episode of bjwil1991's retro computer adventures.

Today's topic: the DGi DGi-P-90C/FMA7600 laptop. I have two of these laptops, one of them I bought 2 years ago and it didn't have the charger/power supply. The one I got recently came with 2 batteries and the charger/power supply.

So, when I powered on the DGi laptop, nothing appeared on the display. But, once I smacked the top of the laptop and power cycled, it sprung to life. In fact, both laptops (FMA7600 FCC IDs) have the same issues: dead CMOS batteries, power issues (I know it's the PSU board on the inside, but I need to dig deeper to confirm), the system won't boot from the HDD without a working CMOS battery, and the other issue the DGi has is the squeaking hinges, but I can fix that. That and the DGi's display has a dead pixel, but it's no big deal.

The DGi has the following specifications:

Intel Pentium 90 SX957 without the FDIV bug
16MB RAM (8 on-board, 8 on an expansion RAM card)
C&T video
TFT Active Matrix
1.44MB FDD
540MB HDD (doesn't boot without a CMOS battery and I'm swapping between the two laptops to see if one of them boots up, but both have dead CMOS batteries)
ES688F+YM-262M
14.4K PCMCIA modem (not going to use it at this time)

The code for getting into the BIOS on both machines are AMI_SW and when I clear it temporarily, it doesn't ask for it again until I turn the laptop off (hence it needs the CMOS battery).

I checked the laptop some more along with the one I bought 2 years ago and they definitely need a recap on the power boards. Smacking them and turning them on will work for a while until I turn off the laptops for about a minute or so, then they won't turn on.

Contact cleaner was used and 91% Isopropyl Alcohol to clean bad spots.
