I was lucky enough a little while ago to be given a brand new Compaq DeskPro from 1999:
All new never been turned on till now. Y2k sticker on the box.

I have a ap550 from the same era. Looks very similar, but it doesn't have ISA.

Yes, it's just the system speaker. Compaq liked them big I guess.

I have one of those running Windows 2000. Has to be one of the slowest machines I've ever encountered.
But, the battery still works, amazingly.

Actually, the system routes the sound card output through that speaker unless you plug something into the 3.5mm jack in the back. Pretty cool, and not that common on PCs.
[Install Win95 like you were born in 1985!] on systems like this or this.

and really useful on "boring office" pc's
What I liked about this case is you can turn the drive bay around for either desktop or tower setup
