I am not such an expert on these glide wrappers, I used dgvoodoo for some dos games wtih succes, but today I bought this windows game.
It's novalogic's mig 29 (1998).. kind of a dissapointment: no opengl or direct3d support, only glide. Not much info on the web, no real updates? no cd-check patches. seems like quite a forgotten game.

Now I tried some windows glide wrappers this evening, including openglide.
It usually comes down to the plane looking fine, and part of the surroundings too. but somewhat near the horizon things start to look garbled. hardly playable.

any sugestions or just no luck on this one?

I sort of doubt that it will do any better, but you could try the attached file. Its the latest version of psVoodoo.

No luck again, many items look untextured now, yet the sky looks better with psvoodoo. here are two screenshot, (I'll host them for a while):

thanks for the suggestion though

PS. worth noting is that novalogics F-16 MRF and F-22 raptor use the same game/graphics engine

this time I ran the game on another PC:
MSI KT4V
athlon 2000
asus GF Mx440 64mb
win2000

Edit: changed images to vogons local storage, so I can remove them from my server space.

Here's a better version, with a few of the problems fixed.

Not sure why you are gettingwhite textures though. Maybe its because the MX440 doesn't support shaders. Could you post your psVoodoo.log file?

Thanks Glidos,

I have tried it immediatly; and I am suprised to see the horizontal bar of garbled stuff is gone now! that has been a chronic problem in every previous attempt. The hud/dialog texts are very readable too, which is also a plus over other wrappers.

The white/untextured appearance remains though.

Included is the log file, I already noticed three lines about 'not supported'. I hope you can find an alternative/optional way of texturing like the one used in openglide. I guess that is the only flaw remaining.

Today I also posted my disappointment about the lack on a decent update at novalogic tech support, felt like doing so 😉

Yes, I've fixed the horizontal bar, although its a hack at the moment. I'm still trying to understand why what I've done works, so that I can redo it properly.

The log helps. Almost certainly it is the warning

Warning: GR_COMBINE_FUNCTION_SCALE_OTHER_MINUS_LOCAL not supported.

which is causing the white textures. psVoodoo supports that method on shader cards like mine, but not on non-shader cards. But its only because it was awkward. I think it can be done.

Doesn't look that hard to sort this out.

One big big pain in the arse: I'm on my last 3 mins of the demo. Looks like I'm going to have to buy it. Ideally I'd like to run it on 3 different computers I have here. Probably the other two I can get away with the demo though.

Ok,

concerning the problem with the demo running out:
1 - use this game's demo, same game, different airplane:
http://downloads.5star-network.com/Games/f16.zip

2 - full versions here, probably, though download is too slow to be practical:
http://202.203.208.164/F-16/
http://202.203.208.164/mig-29/

3 - managed to make a no-cd package myself using patches from this site:
http://www.geocities.com/nwf192nd/downloads.htm
but it is 117MB, so I can't really sent it to you....

4 - buy the game, it was a mere 2 Euro here (2.5 dollars)

On this site you can also find a replacement for Hw_3dfx.dll that seems to be aimed at providing direct 3d rendering, but I can't get it to work myself..
tried all kinds of settings with it, but it remains software rendered..

My demo time just ran out on my last test, and I didn't get to see if the white-out as you look into the sun was working. Should do. M16 doesn't seem to have that effect.

My demo says to pay 10.99ukp for the full copy, which I might, but I'm interested to know where you got it for $2.5.

Thanks Glidos, I really appreciate your efforts so far!

Your latest version works in my windows 2000 PC. and it looks very good, only a few small flaws (some missing textures in the cockpit and in the landscape)
I attached the log to this post.

The strange thing is that it doesn't work on my windows 98 PC. it crashes to desktop. psVoodoo.log says it could not inititalize Direct3D?

The game I bought in the toystore in the nearby city, I went there again today, also planning to buy one for you, but they did not have any more of them.
I did find novalogic F22-raptor and F22-lightning 3 together for 3 Euro.
anyways I you like I would not mind sending you my CD of mig29f. I got it standalone on my harddrive anyways.

PS the link above which I assumed to be the full version of F16 MRF is actually F16 agressor from virgin interactive. nice!

Edited:

on the win2000 PC:
The cockpit items in the mig 29: while playing certain gauges disappeared and other ones reappeared over time.
The mountain with missing textures was white at first and started getting black when flying closer.

on both PC's
The transparent floor in the f-16 is always the same.

on the win98 PC:
with direct-x 9.0b it crashed to desktop, direct-x 9.0c works fine. On this PC the results are better: Mig 29 f gives no missing textures, the way I see it here the visuals have no flaws whatsoever.
