Apart from turning it on and off, there isn't much you can do. Muffled and pops? Hmm definitely doesn't sound good.

Surprised you got it going in Police Quest III, a Sierra game. Did you use a modified MT32.DRV?

Try Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2 or Fate of Atlantis. They will all work on the MPU401 UART interface and you can compare them to the footage on my YT channel.

My guess would be a pirated version that includes the MTBLAST driver.

Got some good news, and some bad 🤣

The machine I was orignally using, seems to be shot. I think the old AWE32 card did it in.
So, I hooked up my old HP Vectra (Pentium, Win95). Popped in the Gravis Ultrasound PnP, and the Roland.

Now, because Windows 95 is a hissy woman, DOS games aren't playing properly, but that's for another day.
However, with Cakewalk Express, the midi/syx files from Quest Studios, and a SYX injector, it works beautifully. Sound quality issue isn't present anymore.

Here is the final result. Video footage is straight from the Vectra, audio from the MT-32.

Thanks to everyone who helped me hook this beast up! Once I get a proper rig setup, I'll be ready to start truly gaming with the MT-32!
