Well after all these years I got hold of a MT-32 and after routing through old hardware in the basement I finally settled for a Gateway 2000 (P5-166) 16MB RAM, with a Sound Blaster Live! (CT4870). Wanted to use DOS only but ended up going to Win 95 for convenience.. which feels like an odd thing to say 🤣
A little over a week later I'm still having no luck getting anything nice sounding out of the MT-32 and have ended up at this forum a few times.
I managed to direct some Win 95 MIDI files through the unit.. and they sounded awful.. really bad.
Tonight I found out about the self test - which passes okay but fails on the receive (which I think I read requires a loopback cable/dongle). I then did a version test and got the following message:

Has this MT-32 been modified, if so.. can it be reverted to something that I can use to play Sierra titles and perhaps a bit of Ultima VII?
I really want to stick with the old hardware - can anyone help this old gamer?
