I am using x-com:ufo defense version 1.4.

OS: XP SP2
PC: 2.8ghz core2 duo, 2gb ram, etc.
sound: on-board sound (disabled), MT-32 hooked up through sound blaster live! midi port.

MT-32 works great in dune2, sierra games, 4d boxing, etc.

In x-com, it works fine using sound blaster/adlib for music. I can select General Midi @ port 330 and the MT-32 will run using general midi. Of course MT-32 was not intended to be general midi so it doesn't sound quite right. If I select LAPC-I or MT-32 for music, then the MT-32 does not play anything.

Any tips?

I have the same problem with X-COM 1.4 (CD version). The MT-32 won't make a sound there. The best solution I have found is to use the SCC-1 instead, the music sounds very good on it.
