Why can't I hear anything on the MIDI channels 1 and 10 to 16?

The MT-32 has 8 melodic "Parts" , and a rhythm part. Each of these parts is mapped to a MIDI channel. By default the parts are mapped to MIDI channels 2 to 10 (with 10 being rhythm).
This explains why you're not hearing anything on channels 1 and 11 to 16, but not channel 10. Some keys in the rhythm part are unmapped - try pressing some different keys, and you should find the drum sounds.
