How do I get an application to run automatically when I open a dosbox shortcut?

I thought there was some way to make it so that when you opened a dosbox shortcut it would open an application automatically, without first going to the command line. I'm pretty inept with stuff like this, so could someone help me out?

By all means do read the ReadMe. You'll want to use the [autoexec] section of the config file, and the -conf command line parameter to the dosbox executable.
