I noticed, that the videos i captured are displayed as if they were compressed in a lossy way.
Example from the game Strike Commader:

The first image is a screenshot from the player MPlayer, you can see that the red is kinda washed out.
The second is a screenshot from the same file, taken from VirtualDub, which seems to display everything correct.
The third is a screenshot directly taken with DOSBos as reference.

I noticed this effect on other players, too, in linux and windows.
Does anyone have an idea how this could be and maybe how to fix it?

They play the video on an yuv overlay which has reduced color resolution so you get pixel bleeding. In windows while playing with media player classic it can output to an rgb surface which keeps original resolution but pretty much every other player sticks with yuv.

I game in Windows and playing it in Media Player 10 seems fine. I won't put MP11 on this system since it was designed for Vista and it effectively kills all support for my iRiver until removed, so I cannot say what MP11 would display.
