Windowed mode seems but work fine, but when I try full screen mode DOSBox runs extremely slow and the graphics start messing up. When I look at the CPU usage history in Task Manager, when in full screen mode it was high (although it doesn't seem to be 100%) while in windowed mode it's very low.

I've tried a few different games and it's been the same for each.

I tried changing the cycles and frameskip numbers, as well as tried cycles 'max', with no improvement.

I have DOSBox 0.72 on Vista Ultimate 64. Graphics card is an HD4850.

Are there any suggestions on other things I could try? Is what I'm experiencing a known issue?

Thanks for the quick response! Changing from 'surface' to 'overlay' fixed the issue 😀

opengl, openglnb, and ddraw also worked, although I have a widescreen monitor and the first two displayed the game towards the bottom of the screen, while ddraw displayed it on the top. overlay displayed it in the middle.

Another question - I changed the 'fullresolution' to '1920x1200', which is my monitor's native resolution, in order to get rid of the black bars above and below the game. Before it was 'original'. Would there be any potential problems with this? Does it depend on the game?

the image is being scaled. If you like the result then there is no problem
(you could set aspect=true as well. but it is just your own preference)

I think there would be no problems with that.
