This is a very basic question that nobody seems to answer in the FAQs and beginner's guides. How do I get Dosbox 0.73 to create the "dosbox.conf" file? I know I can create one myself and it'll read it automatically, but I want the default settings. So if somebody could copy & paste the contents of the original file I'll be happy.

As of DOSBox 0.73, DOSBox.conf is no longer store in the the DOSBox directory (although you can still use it there if you like), it stored in your profile, You can edit it by going to "DOSBox 0.73" in the Start Menu and clicking on "Configuration" and then "Edit Configuration".

If you click on File -> Save As you'll see this location:

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\DOSBox

You can also create a new DOSBox.conf at any time by opening DOSBox and typing in "config -wc C:\location\dosbox.conf".

Where location is a place you have write permissions to.

I think you can also see the location when you load DOSBox and look at the DOSBox console window.

Thank you! I would've found it before if I knew that the version number was part of the name, since it was simply "dosbox.conf" for the previous version. I guess most people actually use the start menu and don't have to encounter the same problem.

Yeah, the new scheme, location and version number are part of the master plan to make it work better on Vista/W7 and to avoid people having old and error prone settings in their conf file.
