Hello everyone,

I am new to dosbox and have been playing around with it for a week now. I've read all up and down this forum and information is limited, at least for me.

I have been using the standard out of the box configuration for 0.73. I've run into a problem where my c: drive is limited to 249 mb and sometimes I have cdrom problems, not only that but when i'm installing a game I cannot write to disk, it must be installed before i mount c: drive in order for it to work. This is what I want to do:

1. Create a 2gb Image that I can mount as my c: drive (can read, write etc)
2. Have that drive be "remembered" (whatever changes I do to it, when I exit dosbox, dosbox will remember those changes, i.e. new game installation, settings etc.)
3. Have Dos 6.22 as the OS, not the Dosbox os.

Is this possible? If so, what do I need? Where do I download it? How do I do it? Any and all help will be appreciated.

DOSBox limits the amount of space shown because alot of DOS games don't know what to do with GB's of space. Use the -freesize xxx switch (it's in the README) when mounting your virtual c.

What kind of CDROM problems are you having?

Post exactly what you are typing into DOSBox when you try to install your games and what issues you are encountering.

Hi,

Well, for example, I tried to install x-com apocalypse from cd-rom image today. This is what happened.

1. Mounted the CD-ROM image (ISO is already mounted as F: drive using PowerISO)

mount d: F:\ -t cdrom

2. Mounted hard drive:

mount c: C:\DosProgs\

3. Went into the new D: drive and found the cdrom data. Ran the install program for X-Com. Went through it ok. Chose the full install (200 mb). Next screen it told me the cdrom speed was in error...but I was able to continue.

Then it gave me a "cannot write to disk. Disk is write protected, choose another disk for installation" on drive c:

So I couldnt install the game. This also happened on aces of the pacific but I found an already installed version and just copied it to my directory. Apparently the problem is with the hard drive being write protected. Also the space limit is getting to me. I know 6.22 very well and very confortable and familiar with it and would like to run in that environment.

1) Don't do a "double-mount". Mount the image directly in DOSBox using IMGMOUNT.

2) Apocalypse is a bit .... temperamental, when it comes to detecting the CD-ROM speed. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. If I remember correctly, try to set core=dynamic before running the installer.
