Is there a setting to allow moving the mouse from dosbox to the desktop without having to press Alt+Tab, like with scummvm?
Nope. The only other way is to press the keyboard combo alt+enter then click outside the dosbox window.

CTRL+F10 should do it.
Will this feature be available in one of the versions to come?
Pressing the "windows" key also does the trick for me... I'm running Win XP pro so I'm unsure about how effective it is on other OS's...

no.
Dosbox requires for proper mouse emulation a mouse lock. (you can't move from the window)
One of the reasons is that games want to scroll if you move the mouse pointer to the edge and futher. without locking the mouse would be gone.
