Yot was for short notice a coder of dosbox as well, but he died in a accident before that there was some noticable code from him in dosbox.
Yes you can take part in the project in many different ways.
1. Help out on the forum by answering questions.
2. write Documentation at http://dosbox.sf.net/wiki/
3. Submit bugs about games.
4. Find fixes for bugs (or games with similar bugs)
5. Test games and put them in the list at http://dosbox.sf.net
6. Maintain that list.
7. Promote dosbox abroad.
8. Hang out with the developpers in the #dosbox channel at freenode
9. Be a beta Tester.
9a. Maintain this forum.
10. Submit code/changes (patches)
11. Be developper.
12. Be admin.
Offcourse there many more aspects.
