I got D-Fend because it was rated the best way to use 16 bit programs on a 64 bit machine.

I couldn't install them originally because Windows 7 wouldn't even look at them.

D-Fend looks at them, and tries to install them, but every time it gets to the SETUP.EXE command/file, it returns the error "win setup.exe" is not a valid command. It's not in the filename - in must be within the executable.

How do I get around this?

Thank you.
Dave

You are trying to run a 16bit Windows executable on a 64bit version of Windows.

So you will need to install a 32bit version of Windows in VirtualPC, Vmware or VirtualBox and run your 16bit app in that.

sorry for resurrecting dead topic but...some time ago I heard about someone programming a tool for running old 16bit executables in 64bit OSes...or was it a command-line dos support maybe (can't remember)? Unluckily I cannot recover the project name or homepage.

You're probably thinking of MS-DOS Player.

It is definitely not for 16-bit Windows programs.

There is a promising new development by the name of "Win3mu", but it has yet to be seen if it will bear fruit.

Is there actually any place to download this, or is it not released yet? It looks so cool and I really want to try it out, but I can't find a download link anywhere 🙁

Thank you very much for telling us about this project! 😀

Don't worry, let's be patient - that dude wrote this program as a personal project and for a friend.
So he may likes to focus on his private surroundings first, before making any decisions about a release.
This doesn't mean that a release is for sure, but from the little things I've seen so far I think he's more of a thoughtful person
(music taste, style of writing, ..). So let's be patient and hope for it. 😀
