I remember this game gave me a lot of headaches even when I was using real ms-dos. I also remember it had a control panel for selecting different soundcards.

What soundcard do you have? You should try booting into real ms-dos and run it from there.

Works fine here. Core dynamic, 6000 cycles, soundblaster selected in game config.
Maybe your computer is too slow for running this game in dosbox.

400MHz is definitely, definitely too slow.

Yes, it’s my fault.

Works for me using DOSBox but sound it's not as good as I remember it. Maybe it's some wrong setting in DOSBox. Other than that, it works.

Clearly you don't understand how DOSBox works at all. It's a PROGRAM that EMULATES an entire computer.

Yes, it’s my fault.

For that old of a computer if your going to want to run games that worked in 9x but don't work or don't work well in XP then your gonna have to do a dual-boot. If it was me? I'd buy a new computer, dedicate that old 400mhz to 9x and be done with it.

I ran XP fine on a 450MHz system a couple years ago, but there's no way I would reasonably expect to be able to run anything in DOSBox on it (except maybe for very very old games). VDMSound and/or dual-booting is really the only way to go on that slow of a CPU.
