Hey

I recorded a sample video from Dreamweb to try out the new recording feature but when I try to play it on the official DivX player it says the file contains unknown video data which displays it as

Video Data: FOURCC code "2MBV"

It suggests I need to install a new codec

Any insight into why this is happening

The DivX codec is installed

Cheers

it should be start menu (windows)

for linux you need a video player that uses a very new version(CVS or so) of ffmpeg library.

in the menu where you start dosbox from. (in windows)
there is a entry called video.
if you go there there you will find the codec.

Hmmph.

I went and installed the codec from the Start menu entry, and it has done nothing to allow me to play back the recorded video. Here's the report from Media Player Classic:

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I'm running WinXP x64 Edition, if that's any help.

Well, I had no trouble installing the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack at any rate, and that doesn't appear to have any x64 version available. Could it be a bug in the codec supplied with DOSBox?

That probably means that ZMBV codec is for whatever reason incompatible with x64 windows. Try asking on the ffmpeg or vlc mailing list.

Also, devs:

This might be an interesting codec, but I don't know if you could use it without source.

I just tried to upload one of the ZMBV videos to Google Video, and (no surprise) they rejected the format.

Any suggestion for how to convert these vids to H.264, H.263, or MPEG 1/2/4?

Is there any freeware out there that could do such a conversion?

Try VirtualDub. As long as you have the ZMBV codec installed and a codec to transcode to, it will work marvellously.

I'll ask here rather than make a new topic: How exactly do I install the codec? I've tried some guides on the internet (eg. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=142731) but it tells me that the .inf file "doesn't contain information about this hardware". Is the method I linked to correct or is there something else I should be doing? I've got Windows XP Home Ed.

Thanks.

I've got good news and bad news:

Good news: after some mucking around with the latest K-Lite Codec Pack, I can finally play ZMBV AVI files.

Bad news: The colours are messed up. It looks like the red and blue in the pallete are swapped.

Any ideas about how to fix this?

If regular divx-type video plays fine and you have the latest video drivers, it's probably the codec still. Something's causing the U&V planes to be swapped, but it's hard to get them unswapped and I have no experience with x64 so I don't know any special tricks there.
