I noticed this while playing "Shadow of the comet" and "Alone in the Dark".

I notices that the DOSBox window isn't showing the entire screen. In shadow of the comet, some bits of the interface are missing, for example, as if it wasn't able to fit the entire thing in the window.

I tried to change screen resolution or the screen ratio, but it didn't work. It only made the characters look thinner.

Is there a workaround? If you need them, I will post screenshots.

Fullscreen or windowed as well? What OS?

Aitd1/2 look like they should, don't have that other game i think.

I play in windowed mode, because I miss more in fullscreen.

My OS is Windows 2000.

For AITD, the most easier place you can see the problem, il right in the beginning. When a creature is spying you from a window, normally, you can see clearly his bony hands, but now, you barely see them. I'll post screenshots if I have time.

That's odd, it's fine here (in the intro you mentioned).
Did you try different output= settings in dosbox.conf?
