Hi,

I've read here that there are two versions of the SDL for Windows:

http://www.libsdl.org/intro/whatplatforms.html

Does DosBox use the High Performance version? Does that mean that it uses DirectSound?

Would it be possible to force DosBox to use WaveOut?

Thanks a lot.
Regards.

I've wondered about this too... It seems like it should be possible to reduce CPU load and increase sound quality by using hardware-accelerated sound mixing and playback, but there don't seem to be any controls for that in dosbox.conf.

DirectSound won't help much, as it doesn't address the true performance bottlenecks, and the environment variable in question would probably be SDL_AUDIODRIVER: www.libsdl.org , choose "Doc wiki" from the sidebar menu, use the built-in search
