OK, some quick feedback on the config sharing...

  • When sharing a config the config changes shown besides the Explanation box is non-scrollable even though it provides scrollbars.
  • It's difficult to share only relevant config changes if your config has many changes. Need to provide a way to edit the config (though that will likely make config reviews harder) or select relevant configs to share.

Could someone explain how I can make DBGL detect that the version I'm using is indeed experimental? I'm using SVN Daum but the only options I can find are to say it's 0.74.

All I see in the general section is: DosBox, Sent To (Requires restart), Profile defaults and Internationalization (requires restart).

I apologize if I'm blatently missing the point.

@thegeneralpanda: first you need to add SVN Daum in the 'DosBox versions' tab of the main window (next to the 'Profiles' tab). Then in the general tab of the profile editing window of the game (not the general preferences) you have to choose the appropriate version of DosBox you want to use.

A small suggestion: there is the 'tiles' and 'boxes' table view, but using the boxes the images are stretched and deformed. Downloading screenshots from Mobygames, it's possible to download the box art too, but DBGL always chooses the first pic. DBGL could use a regular screenshot for the tile or table view, and the box art for the boxes view, if it could detect the size of the images and choose one whose height is higher than its width (that would be the box art).

Hello,

I'm running DBGL (latest version) on Windows XP and Debian 7 without any problems. Now I want to make it run on an older Notebook with Debian 5. Trying to do this with the system provided free Java version I get this just after launching the dbgl Script:

Launching DBGL using null-Bit VM 1.5.0 on Linux v2.6.26-2-686i386, HSQL Database Engine 1.8.1.3java.lang.NullPointerException
at org.dbgl.gui.Launcher.loadSWT(Unknown Source)
at org.dbgl.gui.Launcher.main(Unknown Source)
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org.eclipse.swt.SWT
at org.dbgl.gui.Launcher.main(Unknown Source)

Trying to do this with the Sun version of Java (1.5 or 1.6) I can launch the GUI, but when I try to run DOSbox, I get this:

Launching DBGL using 32-Bit VM 1.5.0_22 on Linux v2.6.26-2-686i386, HSQL Database Engine 1.8.1.3, SWT v4332gtk
Startup
/home/user/DBGL/DOSBox-0.74/dosbox -conf /home/user/DBGL/DOSBox-0.74/dosbox.conf
DOSBox stderr> /home/user/DBGL/DOSBox-0.74/dosbox: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.11' not found (required by /home/user/DBGL/DOSBox-0.74/dosbox)

Any ideas?

Hi Sheriff,

The DOSBox binary that comes pre-packaged with DBGL was built on an Ubuntu Linux distribution and may thus not work on other distributions. It's probably best to grab the 'generic' DBGL package, and use Debian's own package manager to install the latest DOSBox version for that platform. DBGL should autodetect DOSBox' installation location at first startup, automatically (though I didn't actually test this with Debian, myself).

Hi rcblanke,

you're right, it doesn't work because the DBGL DOSBox was compiled on a different system. Debian 5 comes with DOSBox 0.72. DBGL doesn't find it automatically, but if you tell it the path /usr/bin and the dosbox.conf from the 0.74 version, then it runs fine.

Anybody knows if there's a Debian 5 backport available for DOSBox 0.74?

To answer myself: There's no need for a backport. I could install version 0.74 from the sources. 😎

1. Drop the soundfont into the dosroot folder
2. Edit your profile, under Audio\Official options\General...
- Set "Midi Device" as "synth"
- Set "Config" with the file name of the soundfont
3. Run the games setup and set them to use General Midi

hi kolano!

that's exactly what i tried in thousands variations the last days.

1. i copied the soundfont '8mbgm_enhanced18.sf2' into dosroot-folder of dbgl (with scummvm (fluidsynth) this font works perfect)
2. i changed to synth in dbgl-game-profile-audio-settings and wrote in the config-field 8mbgm_enhanced18.sf2
3. when i start the setup of the games, for example indy 4 or tentacle or sam'n'max and choose general midi and than
choose "test sound" i hear...nothing. adlib works and plays the test sample. soundblaster works. only general midi - nothing to hear.
even if i let midi in the settings and start the game in spite of this it switches back to adlib.

4. i tried different soundfonts and different versions of the games so the problem can not be the games or
soundfont itself 🙁

i added an image of the sound settings from dbgl but it's like you said...

Hi all,
I've just uploaded test build 0.78f with the following changes:

* Make config settings to be shared selectable in tree structure (as suggested by kolano)
* Also added 'consult dbconfws' to wizard
* Fixed initial sort by title when browsing configurations
* For the moment use gtk2 instead of gtk3 on Linux systems to prevent gui issues
* Enlarged the about dialog a bit and made it resizable
* Some code refactoring for Java7 ('Multiple Exception Types', 'try-with-resources')
* Some Spanish translation updates from Neville

Unless any serious issues pop up, this is likely to be the last test-build prior to a new release.

All the latest files
To upgrade, grab the dbgl.jar as usual.

Regards,
Ronald

OK, this is driving me nuts, so I'd better share...

I have a DOSROOT\<Game Name> folder.

Inside the folder, a Win95.img harddrive image and a <Game Name> ISO file.

How do I mount these images so I boot from Win95.img (as C:) while <Game Name> ISO being accesible under Windows 95.

The profile uses Yhkwong's build. It's a Win95 game that runs from the IMG file but needs the ISO image as well.

The guy who sent it to me just emailed me back. Says the game needs these instructions in the AUTOEXEC section:

imgmount D "FolderName\CD\Game.iso" -t cdrom -ide 2m
imgmount C "FolderName\w95.img" -t hdd -fs fat
boot -l c

But also warns me that DBGL cannot export the profile properly.

Can you do anything about it?

Yeah, the '-ide 2m' is not supported. Try imgmounting the w95.img, and put 'imgmount D "FolderName\CD\Game.iso" -t cdrom -ide 2m' into the custom commands tab, 'before launch' section. In the mounting tab, select Booter mode, grab the imgmounted W95.img and select the 'C'-drive as the Drive Letter.
