I can't get dosbox to start every time i do it comes up with a dosbox has encountered an error and needs to close sorry for any incovenience etc. so i checked the readme file and it said in the faq

Q: DOSBox crashes on startup and I'm running arts.
A: This isn't really a DOSBox problem, but the solution is to set the
environment variable SDL_AUDIODRIVER to alsa or oss.

i guess this is my question but how do i set the environment variable

help!

The problem you're having is a direct result of a problem with SDL (Simple DirectMedia Layer). You can also try to update the SDL.dll by searching google on SDL en browsing to downloads on their page.

To set an environment variable, on Windows, have a look here :

Don't forget to delete the variable if it turns out to be nothing. Just to be shure.
