If I delete DOSbox, reinstall, and run, I get a crash right away

AppName: dosbox.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: sdl.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0002e699

If I use Dfend as a front end it works fine. I assuem somethings isnt getting set by default but Dfend sends it and the program will run.

Now and again, I can start up DOSbox all alone, and it runs fuine. And yes, I have read the manual.

Any tips? I only have one app to run, so prefer to not use dfend.

it seem to be installed in my start menu by the install prgram, so i just click that icon..

sometime it opens in a window, sometime just crashes.

"dosbox.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Go to Start => Run ... => Cmd
In the Cmd window, do a

C:\> chdir /d "%ProgramFiles%\DOSBox-0.70"
C:\> dir dosbox.exe
C:\> dosbox.exe

If DOSBox now fails to startup, please copy/paste the result from the dir command to this thread.

it goes to full screen mode, where I think it says it's creating a config file, (but flashes by very fast), then crashes exactly as described above.

Um that installation looks quite broken. Did you remove files?
Completely uninstall it, assure that the folder is deleted,
then re-download the dosbox 0.70 release and install it.
Try again what minimax posted then.

he did 'dir dosbox.exe' which will only bring up dosbox.exe.

Ah ok sorry, didn't see that.

Is that directory listing before or after you uninstalled+deleted dosbox?
There's a lot clutter in it and most likely some old dosbox.conf gets used.

I agree with wd - there is a lot of files in that directory. Looks like something that belongs to D-Fend??

Did you install D-Fend into the same directory as DOSBox-0.70? You shouldn't do that. If you did, you should export all your settings, uninstall D-Fend and completely remove the DOSBox-0.70 directory.

Then you can install DOSBox 0.70 into a new, clean directory. And next D-Fend into its own directory, import your profiles, etc.

I just ran diosbox. It ran ok, but there was a second *full screen* window that said somehitng about reading config, and 'MIDI opened device win32.'

(If this is needed cant it run minmized?)

I tried it again, and it crashes each time now.

Again I set up a profile using dfend, and it runs my app just fine.
Some default settign in DOSbox causes me to crash?
